Anvils:  You guys all have shields equipped with your 2H weapons.  Would you rather lose the shields and probably die, or keep them and probably never hit anything?  I know better than to ask if you'd rather train with reasonable 1H weapons for a while ;)

This includes SpaceCat, the 5th Anvil, and Competent Legion Axedwarf.

Have I been dorfed as Zean yet? What happens if you just give them two shields? The elf 'shield dancers' from the last fort sure did a number on notdoctor Domas from the last fort.

I thought I'd get to use that artifact knuckle duster for the lulz, assuming you can assign a specific weapon to a specific squad member. What skill would that weapon train, anyway? Hammerer? Striker?

If the armor is good enough and layered like suggested in that handbook for Masterwork, I'd imagine the military could get along quite well w/o shields, especially if that trap corridor is as godly as it sounds like. Shields really seem to be most valuable in adventure mode, in my experience, with 20 shields all in one hand acting as super armor. In Fort mode the dwarves will take hits even with the shields equipped, since they'll only have one (or 2) equipped.

You can have the knuckle duster OR you can be the Legion axedwarf, but not both ;)
Knuckleduster is striking skill.

Zen you're going in, as Zean the Legionaire and Blacksmith, no weapon skills yet but great stats.  You're captain of the second squad.  Noone is getting dual shield dancing gear on my watch, well, except that I will try to respect posts made in character, so if  you go post  "Zean dramatically throws his mastercraft patternmithril spear into the volcano and equips another copper shield instead," I guess I'll do it :)

I'm reading Moby Dick for some reason, not necessarily recommending it BTW, but did you guys know/remember Ahab forges his whaling harpoon with bloodsteel?!

I'll just stick with the legion axe guy, then.  When he bites the dust my "spiritual successor" can whip out the knuckle duster and "avenge my death" (ie probably die horribly against an undead rabbit or something.)

Rule of cool for me dictates I abandon a shield and go with two-handed berserker badassery.

Pangolin soccer, anyone?

Are copper shields all we have? If I'm going to dramatically throw my mastercraft patternmithril spear into the volcano, there better be a damn good shield somewhere for me to use... Do any of them have sharp serated edges? Or a large spike on the front? I'm sure if you got me some decent enough shields I could do ok with them in combat. You didn't see what those ninja-elfs did to notdoctor Domas!

Zean dramatically throws his mastercraft patternmithril spear into the volcano, Other dwarfs stare at him in wonderment and then he holds up two large copper shields with jagged serrated edges and menacing with spikes of steel. 'FOR SCIENCE!!!" He yells and then runs off in a berserk rage looking for battle.

I'd take the twohander without shiled too. I'm confident in our armor.

The Zwei is more powerful, although against humanoid enemies it might be overkill.  The Longsword is also strong, and bigger-than-average dwarves can wield it 1 handed.

I'll get you both Zweihanders.

Occasionally, some dwarfs use even zweihanders as one-handed, in rare cases they even dual-wield them. Though that's rare and might be a bug, it can produce some brutal combat logs.

Well, if Darkhawk can dualwield, lets do it. Nothing more badass then dualwield zweihänder :D One patternwelded mithril, one vulcanic. If its a bug we NEED to test it immediately, as it could screw the balance.... Hey, at least i tried to hide my excitement and greed ;)
