I also remember a Demonbound that dualwielded Greataxes. One of Slademantine, the other an iridium artefact greataxe. He was fun. :)

jakmak, it's actually quite hard to flood a cavern, because cavern edges are not watertight.  if you tunnel a river into a cavern blind without sending in masons to seal off all the edges of the cavern you just get a muddy mess, it most likely won't drown anything.

Yes, but you forget an important part of water-handling: pressure. If I build a BIG reservoir, and let it out from a single 1x1 floodgate, it works as a powerful water cannon, knocking down everything in its path.

While this would be awesome without question, the problem is that I don't even SEE the invaders. I zoomed in when the siege note came up, and all I saw was cavern ground, without any creatures. I'm sure they are down there somewhere, but I don't have a clue where, how many of them there are, and I don't even know their race.
I saw a couple of serpent men hanging about at the start of my turn, could it be them? Can serpent men even lay siege? If so, that's a piece of cake, they don't even have weapons.

Serpent mans can't lay siege.
They are in the caverns from the beginning.
And i had the same with a FB!!
I looked where the message popped up and nothing was there.
10 minutes later 5 of my miners are dead.

Fortunately, we have a drawbridge, so they can suck it for now. I'll deal with them when everything is fine topside, I don't think it's any real treat to our full militia, especially when I'm done with sauropod training.

Question, mainly for Meph: what happens if I transform a dwarf into one of your special castes in the custom buildings? (stonebound, demonbound etc) Is that just a special caste of dwarf that comes with bonus abilities, or a seperate creature alltogether, like a golem? Would he be able to perform tasks like weaponsmithing, father children, remain as a noble and things like that? If not, I'll think twice before transforming - on the off chance that my designated strand extractors finally finish that damn rune.

hey ishar you know that draw bridge that connects the main area to the mineshafts i didn't de-ramp the empty moat there so if you could remove the ramps on the side where the fort is so the miners could easily get out on the other side and drop the bridge so they can get back to the fort.

That was the first thing I did in spring, it's secure.

according to Meph in the main mod thread "Mages on the other hand, they are normal dwarves, can do labor, all as usual, just that they kick ass alot."

That demonbound Meph mentioned was in one of my forts, that dude kicked all kinds of ass, had a ten year long fort with him as the militia captain, and because he was so good I needed a total of four soldiers.

Good to see the question answered. Yes, they do labor and carry gear. Please make my dwarf the first mage, even if he dies on the transformation, at least I tried... Magmamancer for the win.

Panopticon, you accidentally posted in the other thread with the same name, and are confusing the heck out of the locals there :)

Yeah, just noticed, edited it out, here it is in the proper place:

Man, hell of a year so far, we even lost our first champion. Rather surprised the FB got killed, I expected more from something made of metal.

I'm kind of pleased with the narrative that is working out for Zen Jr. though: A scion of royalty making his own way in the world, he faces trials against the enemies of his race, overcomes terrible injuries, gains a position of authority and abuses it by applying the laws without justice, hopefully learning lessons in the process, and then must do battle against one of his own forts mightiest champions.

Good stuff.

Oh yeah, I think we need a clothing industry, during my year I was noticing a fair amount of "Embarrassed to be naked" type thoughts, I made a few sets but the problem will only get worse.

I've been quietly watching with amazement. This fort is turning out pretty awesome. Agree with panopticon about zen, although I am eager to see what will happen to the test subject meph.
