Sorry guys, there's a lot of IRL... stuff... that wasn't expected. I tried to finish the year, but I only made it to autumn.

Here's the save

Progress:
-mined and smelted quite a lot, mostly gold, anthracite, iron and silver
-traded with the humans, we have enough firearms and ammo to equip a ranged squad
-some minor artifacts
-a truckload of newborn children
-started smoothing the fort
-a few deaths (nobody important), somehow people dehydrated in the mining shafts - how is that possible?
-anubite snatcher attempts, hilariously handled by our troops and golems

And what made me post the save in the current unfininshed form: a vampire attack. I just don't have the energy to deal with that.
Oh, and I need to skip my turns for a while, I'll post when I have time to play again. I'll keep reading and commenting on the fort as usual, but I don't want to hold the game back for weeks with each turn.

Don't rush me or I might "accidentally" boil your namesake lizards in magma heated water, somehow. Well, drown them at least.

Not horrible at all, just very busy. Main job, secondary 'job', finishing college, and planning to move at the first sign of spring, likely building my own house. I'm not complanining, things are looking up, there's just not much time for games.
If you don't mind VERY slow updates, I guess I can try taking my turns, but no promises.

By the way, governing the current fort is quite... boring, in fact. We have everything, from food and booze to weapons and warbeasts, and the most aggression I've seen are a few snatcher attacks. The place could possibly keep going on like this forever. Of course there's always the possiblity of a frost giant siege murdering everything.

I get you on the busy, I am starting my own business right now and it is swamping me, today I get to talk to suppliers, look at some ad proofs, finalize a bid for signs and then go and poke my contractors with a stick until they finish the work on our storefront that they promised me, later I get to relax and play DF.

Hello, havent been here for a while, a lot to do, and some sleepiness as result of a evil illness, the normal stuff ;)

What if we let the next guy just go until he gets a siege. Disable every stop except for artifact, ambushs and sieges (and diplomats because hardcoded) and let it run, just taking a look here and there to stop bad things from doing.

The other possibility would be to edit the raws so that the attacking civs have a lesser "entry point". I think they are on vanilla now, so we will have some years of boringness left, as we are all at least advanced players, and mistakes which will cost us the whole fort are not likely to happen.

I tend to the second option ;) If it needs a new fort to be made then.... well..... Testing has happened ;)

After a while, I let the game run on its own too. Childbirths pause constantly though, so it's not exactly effective, can it be disabled without starting a new fort?

I'm sorry folks I gotta bow out, I've been putting in twelve hour days and just don't have the focus to play DF right now, perhaps as I get used to my new schedule that will change, but until then I can only observe.

Yes, meph. Time to 'eat your own dog food' as they say in the programmer world.

I'll be taking a stab at this.

Downloaded the save and I think that my first update will express all my bewilderment at the fort.

EDIT: WE HAVE 100 BABIES/CHILDREN??? ARE YOU BARKING MAD? xD
