Animals Question
« on: May 16, 2012, 07:17:29 pm »

So, I siezed a small group of large cats from an elven caravan.  Previously they were listed as tame, but now they are not, and I can't find an option in the kennels to train them.  If I release them into a pasture or chain them or whatever, are they going to be hostile/wild?

They should never revert from their tame state, it should be safe. Maybe it doesn't say "tame" in some menues, I dunno.

Try it :)

if you're playing current version, you don't use kennels anymore for training but the animal screen in the z menu. It's been changed a bit

No, I'm still on .34.02 apparently.  I'd like to get a better idea what I'm doing before I upgrade.

Animals siezed from merchants don't really work properly - they vanish from the animals list, and will never properly be part of your fortress.

in versions before the latest taming releases, the animals are tame and will stay so. Build the kennels in a pasture where the animals are you want trained for war/hunting and set it to war/hunting training. If you capture wild animals, most need to have the exotic tag removed to be tamed. It is possible in those versions that [PET_EXOTIC] animals will not breed
