You look around your cave you've been living all last year. There is place for sleep, campfire, prisoners corner and a storagebox with some garbage in it. You don't have any valuable property except a knife, the rest of the money you earned were spent on booze from the caravan passing by.
You are tough human and can kick anyone's ass easily. Your bones are unbroken, internal organs are healthy, teeth were always scarce. You obey the voices and put the boy's ribcage on your head. The scull as a buckle on the belt you had before.

You braid your neck with kid's guts and make a sort of a spear from the knife and a stick. You can stab some fish on shallow water. All that crap in the chest isn't worthy to even examine it, you should have thown it away long time ago. You cannot draw and consider everyone who can faggots. As also musicians, dancers, sculptors and other creative bantlings. All this shit is for women and even not for every of them. The man should not soil himself with that.
You leave the cave and go to the road where you can meet someone. There was no place for love in your heart as for the hope to meet it. You got used to satisfy the call of the flesh when there is a chance once or two in a year when you are lucky to catch a woman. The rest of the time you were not interested in sex.
You hide in bushes and look around. The road is empty and birds are singing around. To the left is the fish village. Local beach is beckoning you by some reason. So you go there. It is early morning now and people are just starting to toddle from theit houses. A wagon with fishes and hides is being prepared on the court near the town hall. It's a caravan to the shoties hole home nearby. What was it... Awhorecunt I guess?

I remember a notable magister's monologue I was lucky to hear. He wasn't pampering his students with detailed explanations, he just allowed them to take books they need from the library. Very often things got heated in those moments. I've mentioned before that magister's surrounding was like a snaky knot. Students treated each other with suspicions and hostility: aiming to get secret knowledge, to stand out, to belittle other students. Magister didn't care about our quarells while they don't disturb him personally. Sometimes it seemed he maintained this environment for purpose. Despite I lived in a tower twice as much as I lived in my home settlement, grewn up in big dwarven family, I couldn't fully understand all intrigues and details.
Once a dispute was started about whether the complete knowledge about world structure can be achieved or there is always something unknown, unreachable to the mind. It was so intense that it attracted magister's attention.

Despite our expectations he didn't shout at us but smiled, what was very strange by itself, and start talking:
- No, you are wrong, you won't become more powerfull if you search for meaning in everything. Knowlegde is a tool not a purpose. There are things in the world unreachable for the mind: seeds of the Great Tree and sparkles from the Armok' forge - call them however you want. Titan, gods and the artefacts of equal power to them. Imagine one of them lay in your hands. And instead of using it you spend the eternity solving it's mysteries. The only thing you will gane is madness. Necromancy is based on the laws of our world it is comprehendable. It's learning has meaning because it works all the time. But the laws aren't applicable for things from out of this world. It you face such a thing don't try to understand it - just use it for your own good and if you can't just stay away.

What if a mortal dwarf with the similar way of thinking got one of such artifacts. The power tends to grow like a snowball. The stong becomes stronger discovering new ways and means. He could be noone at start, but with such a destiny gift he could become irrepressible. Today he has one settlement under control, tomorrow a whole underground kingdom and the nex day the whole world. May be even secrets of life and death will be revealed to him. How could my life change in this situation? Can I just stay away hiding on the edge of the ice desert?

I was thinking for several days but couldn't think of any plausible explanation. Bending others will isn't that simple as it seems to be. Even master's dark rituals require free will. I met some mentions of potions with similar effects but it's hard to believe that simptoms of their using won't attact other dwarves attention. May be the ghost witnessed some sort of show performed by the ruler of What-Was-Iton. This version was more acceptable but not more logical then others.
I can waste a lot of time thinking, but I'm starting to understand that it has no use. To unravel this mistery I have to leave my shelter.

I came across with some obsticles even before I left for my journey. The settlement Arol-Iton, that was the name, wasn't on the map. I couldn't ask the ghost a way. I just couldn't summon him and he couldn't come back to me. Being in rage I've ordered him to go away and the ritual forced him to avoid me.
Unwillingly to go random I continue to look for the settlement in books. After the magister died I managed to evacuate hundreds of tomes from this library. There were not only necromancy books among them. "Glory of dwarfes", "History and me", "New look on travels", "Is there an edge of the world: theoretical survey" and many others didn't have any notes about Arol-Iton. Day by day I look through book by book hoping to find anything.
