Smarter Forgotten Beasts.
« on: May 15, 2012, 09:32:11 am »

I copied my save from .06 to .08 and suddenly all the Forgotten Beasts that had been happily living in the caves under my fort figured out how to get in. Something must have changed with pathing?

I've had this in 07 too, so it's not really new. However, if there was no entrance to start with or it was closed at the time of arrival it took them a long time to realize they could now enter the fort

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

It's not that...
It is the trajectories.
The update makes even FB's go ballistic.

Are they fliers or not? Because the fliers pathing supposedly has changed, while I'm not sure about non-fliers. It would be interesting if even non-fliers were smarter, however non-fliers in .34.07 are smart enough for me (and stupid too, when close).

I suspect this is the cause too.  Even if Toady hasn't done a thing to adjust flier pathing, they could still have wandered in such a way that they randomly found a way into your fort if there was one.  I've had this happen several times in .31.25.  I would leave a hole in the ceiling of the caverns where I dug down into them, for example.  Flying FBs would randomly fly around in the caverns and then one fateful day they wander up to the stairwell from that hole, realize they have a path to the fort and start causing all sorts of Fun.

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.
