The xth Age of y
« on: May 14, 2012, 04:43:13 pm »

So I was genning a new world in .08, and something happened I haven't seen before. The ages reverted between each other.

First Age of Myth 1-100
First Age of Legends 101
Second Age of Myth 102-130
Second Age of Legends 131
Third Age of Myth 132-250

Obviously this just means that barely enough beasts were killed to bring it below the Myth threshold, not once, but twice: but I've never seen this actually occur before. I like that Toady had the foresight to have it number ages in case of a reversion. Anyone see this happen before?

Ages are now based exclusively on population of minecarts.  It's complicated.

I've had it happen twice in vanilla .31 . Each transition was linked to a Megabeast death / end of a war between civs. Nothing special.

I think my record was the 7th Age of Myth, in 1050 years.  But I usually only see the 2nd Age of Myth.  In fact, I never get past that these days.  I once ran a world all the way to 2012, and it was still in the 2nd Age of Myth.  That would explain some of what I see on the news.   :P

Most of my worlds end up in the second or third age of something.

Back in 0.31, I ran a 10000 year world once. Along with a 9300 year old war being fought, 17th Age of Myth.

Once had a 3200 year world in 9th age. Was quite cool, but my fort eventually died a haggard 250-dwarf FPS Death.

Dragons/Minatours giving birth will make another age of myth.
