Am I the only one here who actually bothered to look at the site linked, or the justification, or even what they're trying to discourage? It sure seems like it.
It's specifically about calling people "illegals" (not even "illegal immigrants"). This is fairly reasonable, since calling a person "illegal" is pretty weird and dehumanizing. Considering the racial climate, and climate surrounding immigration in the US, I can see it as kind of reasonable to suggest that people should not be calling other people "illegals", especially since it has a lot of potential to be used as a slur.
See, now when they interviewed one of the head founder people on the news, she didn't say that. She kept reiterating "illegal immigrant." no matter how many times the interviewer asked her what was wrong with this commonly used legal term, she kept saying it was wrong. Not once did she mention referring to someone as "illegals."
Nice catch. Although, honestly, "illegals" is just a shorter and easier way of saying "illegal immigrants," but I think I can see what you mean.
Not that I commonly use either term. They are, apparently, a "hot-button issue" here right now, which means news people talk about it every once in a while, politicians if they're feeling daring, but otherwise you never hear anyone even mention them.
Source? I'm not willing to believe people are that stupid yet.
Lol, that reaction is so perfect, my laughter actually brought me to tears
They prefer to be called Citizenship Impaired.
Oh, goodness, that's great too
So, they want to fight the exploitation of undocumented immigrants by giving them a different name? Their cause seems so ridiculous on the surface because of this that they're hurting their cause more then they are helping it. Just look at how many people here already dismissed it as silly.
See, now if you read onlyvthe first half of that first sentence, it sounds like a noble cause, one I'm ready to rally behind. Then you finish the sentence. "oh, what's that? They aren't actually doing anything? Oh, guess I'll just be on my way, then."
