I wonder if the people who have no problem are using maps generated in earlier versions? It seems that people using 34.08 generated maps do have the problem, even with wells.

I generated a new world last night using the new version in a new folder.  Dwarf would take a bucket to a pool and get stuck "Filling pond".

I'm seeing the same bucket issue with filling water from a pond.  Eventually the doctor gets bored or tired or thirsty and drops the bucket which is now full of "Stagnant water", goes to deal with his issue, then grabs a new bucket, repeat.

I hope Toady addresses the bucket-full-of-gross-water bug sooner than later - it's been around a long while now.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.

Out of curiosity, are they only having trouble with contaminated water?

Nope, in my original post I tried both murky pools and a clean river, to no avail.

There is still another similar bug, with honeybees. Normally in v.34 dwarves go to collect colonies and return immediately with bees (in comparison in v.31 they were doing something on colony tile and often getting stuck). However, occasionally they try to go to the site previously occupied by a colony, but now empty, and then they get stuck. I don't know if this is related, but maybe the nature of these two bugs is the same, and Toady could fix both of them.

It sounds like the doctors should work with a well too... I build my hospital before my well... (because you should have clean water anyway) I haven't gotten any big forts going though, so can't say for sure.

apparently not :(
my chief medical dwarf stands with a bucket near the well, doing nothing and trying to con'v'ince me, he is applying a cast

since the wounds of the patient in question have healed in the meantime anyway, i kicked him out of his hospital bed. he immediately ran off to attend a party...
the cast thing is legit, dwarves get water and combine it with gypsum plaster to make a cast. This usually t6akes a bit of time unless their bone doctoring is skilled

I'm not in a position to test this so I'll just throw it out there.  Are they perhaps taking a bucket already partially full of stagnant water out to the water source, as they do with barrels and plants?

In my case, they were newly crafted buckets.  I had just started the fort and needed to setup a farm that had no easy access to a water drainage tunnel.

Good news on that front.  If you haven't seen it already, Toady has updated the Change Log on Mantis and the log states that the fill problem is resolved.

Now we play the waiting game.

the medic sits beside the (not-so-)wounded(-anymore) (he came back to the hospital since he is still scheduled for gypsum casting and did go right back into coma) and waits. at least half a year now. when he's really thirsty/hungry he is off for a few days, then returns to the hospital doing nothing.

so for now i say this is connected to the bucket/liquid bug

Thanks Dwemer - I too am having this problem. Glad to hear a fix is soon-to-be-released.

I generated a world with 34.08 and found a workaround: I just designated multiple pond zones directly above the real pond zone, which made it work. Maybe dwarves are just slow at getting water from a pond.
