out of curiosity why do you guys keep war animals out of the way until war?

because when I have an adequate supply of war beasts, I want to stop animalsplosion eating all my fps since my computer is slightly outdated. Putting them in cages not only stops new pregnancies for the animals, but also stops them pathing everywhere, taking another chucnk out of fps.

For anyone who wants to make the suggestion to get a better computer to improve fps, I'm willing to accept donations, not stupid advice.

I see, so this Giant Lion Tamarind just wandering around the fortress isn't going to do anything cool? Weak.

Tigerman starved to death apparently. :(

You need an activity zone for war training now.  You can also attempt training wild animals for domestication.

I can adapt to this but I really have to wonder what the point of making the game ever so slightly more complicated is. :\ Is there any advantage to the new way over the old?

besides this being sort of the intended way all along and not having to edit all the creature raws to remove EXOTIC tags from the PET tag so you could tame them in the first place?

make a room. make a door. make a pasture. put animals in room. make door impassable for pets. done

note that too many animals in a small room will fight and that that won't happen in a cage. A cage can hold... a lot, but won't allow new pregnancies for females that are inside (which is actually quite useful).

that's useful.

i don't want cages, as it would take too long to release them (war animals) during war.

So I'll build a wall around the pen/pasture, create doors, make them pet impassable, problem mostly solved (unless a dorf takes his assigned war animal out of the room for any reason, I guess I'll also have to unassign all the war animals from the pasture during war time).

I have an idea, a floodgate that prevents them from passing until war, but they'll fight...  They won't if the area is large enough.

btw, I set them to train from the z menu, and assigned any available trainer... I have trainers... nothing is happening...
