Easiest Megabeast ever
« on: May 12, 2012, 12:03:40 am »

I started a fort and decided to neglect all defenses, seeing as every civilization was at peace with every other (Yep, forgot that goblin ambushes and theives come anyway). So about a year in, I got the announcement: The terrifying Bob (forgot name) has come! A giant weremonitor with charcoal eyes yada yada. I close my drawbridge (Poor woodcutters and plant gatherers) and watch it.

It comes 10 tiles onto the screen, turns into a Serpent Woman, and walks off the screen.

Wut?

It was a weremonitor. The weremonitor attacked, but then it stopped being a full moon and the weremonitor (now back to original form, the serpent woman) decided to leave.

I remember one time I found a Megabeast on my second year and was too afraid to fight it. I worked up the courage in four years and killed it in ONE HIT. Wow.

Another thing, the serpent woman was listed as Friendly under the units screen, despite the wiki saying they are hostile. Was that a bug, or merely it being deceptive and trying to get into my base?

Random off topic questions, I have some goblin ambushers outside my base. How long will they stay there?

Temperature was turned on. "A puddle of something-or-other..."

random historical figures from animalmen tribes are listed as friendly. So it goes even for animalmen who have just killed your dwarf: they become historical for that and become friendly because of it.
idk if it should be considered a bug, but for me werecreatures that turn to their normal form should be terrified of what they have done and run away.
goblin ambushes stay for a year or slightly less maybe. I think other ambushes and sieges can still come when they are here, and caravans definitely can.

Werecreatures are usually pretty pathetic when they come onto your map, I've never had one get more then 8 squares in from the edge before turning into a naked human or something else funny.
"A werecreature has arrived!  Oh, never mind, he just changed into a naked stonecrafter, we're good."

Were-creatures in their humanoid form are friendly by default. Not a bug. It wasn't an attempt to infiltrate your fort, it was them running away in terrified horror.

'The minotaur something something has come a giant humanoid monster with the head of a bull.'
it run to my fortress and then 'the flying *copper bolt* strikes the minotaur in the head tearing the brain.'

If it were Failcannon, a siege butchering the population would constitute an event of minor interest that would barely be mentioned in comparison to the overseer's latest obsessive construction.

The last two werebeasts have been killed by outside forces.
One was a wereporcupine who went after the human trade caravan that was leaving. by the time he reached them only a bowman was left, who proceeded to shoot an arrow that tore the wereporcupine´s heart and some more before the wereporcupine reached him. When he was done my militia had finally caught up and the werecporcupine made a beeline for them, leaving a straight strail of blood.
Three tiles before they colided the beast bled to death. I have to say I found it anticlimatic.

The next one was a weremongoose. Thing is it apeared seconds into a siege, which had apeared seconds after a human caravan apeared.
The funnier thing was that it apeared right behind one of three forces of goblins and trolls.
It managed to bite a few trolls and kill one troll before reverting to a serpent man and getting mobbed.
Only problem is that they were in the evil half of the mal so afterwards I had to deal with a zombie troll and a zombie serpent man that managed to kill two of my marksdwarfs that had become uncouncious due to the rain of fetid sludge.
Maybe Ill get a troll turned into weremongoose sometime next year. Though Id really prefer a weremammoth so I can turn them into something useful as the zombies from the evil biome have been the biggest challenge yet. The last two titans have been made of mud and steam.

I once had a marksdorf run at a crocodile FB, and right when I thought he was gonna die, he oneshotted the croc.

Had a forgotten beast than I'm not even sure what it was made of at one point. I just know it killed one miner by shooting "frozen forgotten beast extract" at them, smashing their skull on impact, and then suddenly died, without anything touching it. Didn't even leave a corpse to examine.

I had a forgotten beast that was a blob of ash with a shell or something like that. A miner kicked it. The End.
