Hori
You enter the train, fully expecting some sort of magical portal to whisk you away. Nothing happens of the sort.
Instead, you find yourself standing between two cushioned seats, both one of a dozen in their row of seats and wooden tables. It occurs to you that this was the First Class compartment. But if it was, where is everyone? Why is their blood splattered across the aisle? And why is there a sashimono bearing (55=10) a mon which you somehow manage to recognize as belonging to the Ryoshun Clan? (though you can't place the family)

Isaac
(13=4) You just can't do it. You can't ignore the ruckus.
Looking out the window, you see a band of about a dozen footsoldiers, barely armored and carrying thin spears, marching ahead of what might be a palanquin and its retinue. Beside the palanquin's lead carriers strolls a robed man with two weapons at his waist. He is bearing a long pole with a barbed, two-pronged metal tip.

If you decide to head downstairs to figure out what's going on, they won't at all mind your following them to the scene of a nearby battle which is just winding down...It might be a chance to get a taste of the local flavor.

Oshaberi & Kenage & Asane & Hayato &  Katsu & Ted
Oshaberi and Kenage exit the Sun Blossom, turning the corner to abruptly encounter an injured and bleeding Ted as he sheathes his katana and submits to Hayato while Asane looks on. In this same moment, Katsu rides up to find the battle at an end.

In the distance, the Magistrate and his guard approach. You all only have a few moments to speak and act before they arrive.

Hori was surprised. He barely even knew the Ryoshun clan, so he couldn't fathom how he recognized its mon. He moved the dead man around to see if there was anything else he could recognize, but to no avail.

"You can ask me yourself, and yes I did injure one. He and his brother were going to execute an innocent peasant so I challenged him to a fair duel." Ted said, clutching his chest.

Katsu saw the man sheathe his sword. Apparently the combat was over, and he heard the man utter few words about "honour". Ha.

"You forefited any notion of honour and respect when you decided to abandon the duel and call for rebellion, then throwing that away and running like a dog. There shall be no respect for men such as you. It would be an insult to Ryoshun if I let your insolence go unpunished."

He then turned to the Morikano samurai who just spoke to the man.
"Do you know this man , Morikano-san? What happened exactly? This man looks and behaves like a guilty person, but there must be a reason for a public outburst like that.

"You and your friend forfeited any notion to honor when you took on a single man at the same time. As for the duel, I finished it. He could no longer fight and because of that he was defeated."

Isaac
You trail along behind the norimono's entourage of soldiers and yes-men, and eventually manage to get a peasant to explain the situation as you walk. It would seem that a drunk was to be executed earlier today, for tripping into one of the Magistrate's consorts. Two men, Ronin and Genki, apparently stepped in to prevent this by challenging the Magistrate's bodyguards for a duel. After severing one bodyguard's arm and slaying the other, the Genki fellow attempted to start a rebellion. When this failed, the two fled, pursued by another person who was also named Ronin, and two men in service to the Shogunate.

Hori
You investigate the train compartment, searching for any sign of the blood's source. Aside from the small flag, and several grievous slashes through the seats, only one of which is bloody, there is no other evidence. Not even a body.

Oshaberi & Kenage & Asane & Hayato &  Katsu & Ted
People talk. The Magistrate continues to approach.

"Watch your toungue and think about where you are and what have you done. You are a brigand. You do not deserve to be fought in a duel."

"Do not deserve, or could you simply not match me in a fair duel? The ronin waited yet you didn't. What does that show when a clanless ronin waits but two samurai do not? Unless you request an explanation of why I did what I did then I am done talking."

Hori never figured himself to be a master investigator, and was content with not being one.

Katsu began to hate the insolent man. He spoke of honour as if he owned the concept, yet he showed none of it.

"Did you or did you not incite the peple of this place to rebel agains the Shogunate? As representative of Ryoshun, you are nothing but a bandit and rebel to me. You do not have the privilege of demanding a duel or displays of honour form me."

"I did, but the anger was directed mostly at the magistrate. Perhaps if you saw a man about to be executed for tripping then you would understand. Or perhaps you would not and you are just like the magistrate."

Asane shook her head as the wounded samurai and the Ryoshun enforcer continued to bicker. She wasn't much learned in etiquette, but if there was one thing she'd learned from the dozens of ronin she'd encountered over the years...

"Akahoshi-san... loose tongues are soon lost. Please, bear this wisdom into your next life." She gave a slight bow, before turning to the approaching norimono.

I am not magistrate and I do not judge him on how he performed his duties. On the other hand I see someone who interfered with administration and tried to incite revolt. This is treason. To leave it unpunished would be dishonourable to me."
