None yet.  I usually don't risk my dorfs -- at least the useful ones.  I started at the top of my list and simply went down so most of you guys are miners and masons.

Do we get the honour of ritual entombment in the elephant? Then we could all be... A part of it.

Year 108.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Map

Level 20 has been reached.  Construction on the trunk has been started and it will connect to the body of the elephant here.  Construction on the head begins here, and eventually the tusks will be built underneath this level.  The soap stockpiles under the beast have been depleted, so I need to wait for the dwarves to reload it to resume construction at a reasonable pace.

A cave-in was engineered over the adamantine spire in cavern 3 and the dwarves have begun extracting the adamantine to be processed above.

Life continues to be mostly uneventful.  Occasional swarms of troglodytes or crundles make nuisances of themselves in the second cavern, but they just get used as live training dummies for the fort militia.  Even better, a cave crocodile was caught in the cages near the entrance on the level and promptly trained.  She'll now be providing the fort with large clutches of eggs.  If I'm lucky, a male may appear and I can start breeding cave crocs.

Nice to see this is progressing well, orius. :o
Good luck, keep it up.

Y'know, I've never found a megaproject I really wanted to do myself.
I've got a pretty good idea for one, but it would be damn near impossible.

Think the part that gets me is soap....

Impressive. You know, when it is done you could cover it with coal or wood (coal for longer lasting) and set it on fire. You'd have burning elephant :)

I've never tried burning soap in DF. IT is below 11k though so I imagine it would burn in block form.  Shame. If the elephant was built out of glass for instance you could have an eternally burning elephant that spewed magma.

You should turn the elephant into a city for the select few dwarves you like. Also, make sure to put fortifications in the most comedic spots.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Oooh!  More dorfs!

I don't have coal on this map, and it would take forever to import enough to cover the whole elephant.

I don't think constructions can burn.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

True, but the items can. Orius could dump wood or charcoal on top of the elephant, once complete.
