Orion Dinobeatdown
« on: May 08, 2012, 07:37:23 pm »

What if you had advanced weaponry?, Base to defend, BIG HUGE world you can roam? Sound interesting right? Add dinosaures, mech, vehicule and you get Orion Dino beatdown. A nice little game but very very very buggy for its first release. Sometime you cant simply fire the game.... Once you get in tho its fun, franctic, fast, and you better not play with a gamepad because you will be eaten by raptors.

I love the game so far and im starting a live feed very soon so you can get your eye on it.

From the official website

Only 10$ on steam, but some of you sill clearly say it doesnt worth the 10$ with all these bugs. Well you can always buy it now, try to try it and once its stable enough IT WILL worth the 10$ believe me.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

I was curious about this - but the initial reviews are indeed appalling... I think I'll wait for a couple of patches.

Being indie is awesome, and I generally support indie games on "principle" to support the devs. But, this does not excuse indie devs from having a decent game that, you know, works. I might have to reconsider my policy, which greatly saddens me :(

I got this too.  Its buggy as heck right now, but from the singleplayer I've played it seems pretty fun.

Hopefully the upcoming patch today will fix most of those bugs.

Ah, it seems to be working a fair bit better now.  I had a fun game with no big glitches.

Screenshots? I already know this game exists, but I would like some ingame screenshots to see what's going on.

Also, since this game comes in two flavors (single and 4-pack), then a few of the more generous B12ers can share it around if need be.

Apparently, people who purchased the game before the Monday patch get a little something to compensate, according to the lead dev on the Steam forums.
This is the thread.
tl;dr
Quote
    Color Name
    Color Armor
    Beta Access to Prelude
    3 Tracks from the OST
(+)10% discount extension to cover lost period of time

There's a poll in that thread for what color we want to have our names and armor colors.
It's always been a race between purple and black, and black is currently in the lead.
Can... can anyone help counter this by voting purple?

As long as it's not pink.
Not that I get color armor, since I got it gifted to me after monday.

Seen a couple groups of people playing this in the game dev lab; looks like a lot of fun for multiplayer with friends in the same room. Buggy as all hell, but overall it looks pretty neat.

It's not pink, it's light red!

The game is mostly fine, as far as bugs go. Gameplay is fun but I don't like how they are working on a new game and focusing on it so much while they haven't really fixed this one at all.

2 friends of mine played this and these were the reviews they gave me:  'One of the things I will regret on my deathbed is the hour I spent playing DinoBeatdown.  I will never get that time back'  the other guy said (warning this gets a little graphic)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

  Soo, yeah, they werent impressed.

Gamespy panned it pretty hard too.

Orion feels like a late-in-development mod, with some interesting ideas but a long way to go. The basics are there, ready to be tested and evolved, and their rough edges worked over with virtual sandpaper by an understanding community. If that was what Dino Beatdown was, it'd be plastered with words like "promising" and "ambitious." But it's not. It's out and it costs money, despite being far from ready for prime time. Even as a quirky indie release with a budget price, Orion asks for too big a leap of faith that it'll eventually work out.

Eh, its not as bad as people make it out to be.  Its a small 10 dollar indie game that people keep making out like its an AAA title.

Its still a bit buggy right now, but the core gameplay is fun enough.  Once it gets some polish I think it'll be good.

And I've played games that cost quite a bit more and were in a much worse state at launch.
