You decide to open Teresa's present first,

And it's Tole 1 & 2, you've been wanting these for quite a while! You can't wait to play them. You thank Teresa and decide to take a look at Sarah's preset next

Joseph: So Sarah, what exactly did you mean by this being multipurpose? What is it anyways?

Sarah: Grandpa made it.

Professor Martin: It's my latest invention,it has many functions controlled by these little knobs you see here. It started out as a laser pointer but is so much more now. It can project holograms, scan objects, interface with most computers, create simple solid light projections- costs a lot of energy though, it recharges itself over time by the way, and-

Sarah hands you the instruction manual and motions for you to go on while he talks. Gil will have to go home in a minute so you pick his next.

It's a first aid kit?

Gil:...

He starts to leave, but your dad interupts him

Dad: Wait I almost forgot! Stay here Gil you'll want to see this.

He heads back to where he stored the gifts and pulls out a long package

Dad: Here you go son.

Joseph: What is it?

Dad: Open it and find out.

Joseph: Buh... wha, ..  . - wha?

Dad: I saw you practicing with those tools in the shed. You're almost a man now, it's about time you start taking care of yourself

You're practically speechless. Though it's not that odd that a kid is being given a weapon in this day and age considering how dangerous it is, you wouldn't normally expect something like this for another year or two. Not to mention that it's really really shiny.

John: Holy, how much did that cos-

*BOOM*

You stand up, it sounded like an explosion! It was loud/close enough to shake the whole room! Sounds like it was coming from outside...

Open the other presents while holding the sword. Quickly.

In any case it would be a battle of critical thinking and I refuse to fight an unarmed individual.
One mustn't stare into the pathos, lest one become Pathos.

Take ye sword and use it to open the other presents like a letter opener.  Only more epic.

Quickly grabbing your sword, you have an urge to finish opening you presents in a dramatic fashion.

You start by kicking them into the air...

And then Slash! The present's wrappings are cleaved open, revealing them to contain a t-shirt, and The Book of Famous Beasts!

You stash them in your out of nowhere inventory as everyone around you reacts to the noise. Now you feel ready for anything.

( :'( sorry about that I feel really bad about it. If it makes ya feel any better the contents of the individual presents opened have actually been what I had planned for them to contain from the start.)

Sky no understand reference.

Also, that was... unexpected xD So we all got red herring'd in a way? D:

Unless our opening of presents would determine who betrays/the intensity of the storm/which laser-guided bat will be shot/which planet is blown up... Trees! Epil.. epi.. Uh... Epic trees!

Anyways, investigate via looking through the window except using a mirror just in case.
Also, make sure your sword is storable/sticks to back.

Actually I just didn't anticipate you guys opening the other presents and couldn't come up with an excuse not too, plus I was getting tired of railroading. :P. My brain thinks too storytell/linearly. As for the ominous image...  you'll see eventually

*Ka- Inventoried!*

Joseph: Now, someone hand me a mirror.

Sarah: ...?

You take the mirror and tilt it so that you can see what's out the window.

Holy crap who the-   What the-    Why-   They blew up Mr. Lorickson's house!

Professor Harold Martin! We know you can hear us. We require your cooperation. You have 1 minute.

Sarah: Grandfather?

Joseph: Wha, why do they want the professor?

Dad: Joseph, kids get away from the wall right now!

Joseph: Dad? What's going on?

Dad: There's no time to explain! You remember about the escape way in the kitchen right?

Joseph: Yeah

Dad: Good. Go use it and get you and your friends out of here. Gil I expect you to keep an eye on them

Gil: *nods*

Joseph: But dad what are you gonna-

Dad: Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Just go get somewhere safe. Once you get into the tunnels they'll intersect with the sewers, and you  can follow it until it reaches the hills outside of town. make sure that you all arm yourselves before you go. There are a few beasts wandering around down there.

Joseph: but!

Dad: No buts! Harold, you know what to do.

You follow your dads instructions and head into the kitchen. Next to the coffee machine there is a secret panel with a button behind it.

You press the button opening a passageway in the floor. Your dad said that he had it installed in case of a really bad beast attack.
