Agreeing here with Shootandrun.

But i think you misunderstood him in one point. Of course you have no obligation to run the game but in the end players don't want to invest much time and effort if its going to die after the second turn inevitably. I know sometimes or rather quite often one loses interest in the game he made or plain has no time or better things to do ( i myself am guilty of all three things on several occasions)
but in your case its a bit of a drag since your games are of high quality and you demand high quality, which leads to people investing time and effort to provide good roleplay and interesting characters only to see their efforts gone to waste.

Imagine somebody inviting you to a game of chess at his home. You drive 45 minutes to his house, play two moves and then he suddenly stands up and realizes he has an appointment at the doctor and asks you to leave. The first time you go okay, no changing that fine. But if you do that 3 or 4 times you are getting sick of it no matter how much you like playing chess. While your host has no obligation whatsoever to invite you and entertain you, it still shitty for his guest.

I think at least thats what Shootandrun meant (correct me if i am wrong here).

FAKE EDIT: Gah Ninja'ed.

Yes. You are correct. Although inviting someone creates an obligation. Which is actually, technically what I did.
So I apologize for my earlier statement. You actually do have a right to phrase things the way you do.

Really, I'm guilty of a similar crime in a similar game, so I empathize with your lack of speed. Maybe try your hand at another type of forum game, like a regular RPG that requires fastness, but not quality. Shaking things up can really help.

Ah, no. Quality is my trademark, as is Godhood. I know that people enjoy playing and watching the Godhood 'series' of games. The amount of games which refer to it as their inspiration only serves to emphasize that. Why would I let a thing like that die?

I'll drop my two cents in Shootandrun and Ghazkull's jar. Its hard to care or put in effort if the game moves at a speed of a turn per 3 months.

You are right, like all of you about this.
Now, then- I want to start a new Godhood. Which ones of you would like to join it? I will keep it smaller, more manageable, and set it up better. It will go faster, and, of course, will both demand and deliver in high quality.

I'd join as well. Not only do I like the Godhood games, but I would also like a chance at a bit more limited creative writing. Limited as in my writing also depends on what somebody else writes.

EDIT: Please reserve a spot for me if possible. I have a major time difference.

Alright. In that case, I'll continue to gather a list of people who would like to join (send me a PM! That is most certainly helpful in establishing an orderly list) until Monday. On Monday I'll start work at the university, so I will be able to set a realistic deadline on which I will start the game (or if there are too many players for me to manage, decide who joins the game).

Do you mean we should send a PM manifesting our interest, or a PM with a sheet for a god? If it's the latter, what template should we use? The one you currently have in the first post?

I would be tentatively interested, although I will wait for a bit to see if this actually takes off. Besides, I would like to reuse Aradan, since I did not get much mileage out of him in the last game.

Yes. Just a short message that you are interested. It helps me keep track of it without having to skim through the OOC-thread.

what template should we use? The one you currently have in the first post?

I will modify the template and perhaps give several spheres for which people can apply. This will give the game a more balanced (starting) pantheon, which in turn keeps the game more engaging and clearer to follow. No more obscure spheres which only serve to confuse people.

Dear readers,

The following people have show interest to participate:

- gman8181
- adwarf
- Azthor
- vagel7
- Fniff
- Shootandrun
- Ghazkull
- Atilliano

I am not going to ask for large pieces of writing, like I did before. Instead, I would like to see all eight of you participate in this instance of Godhood.

I will properly set up the Godhood next Sunday, after this week's university. I have allotted the Sunday for this purpose. (I actually planned ahead on when to spend my time, and how! That's new.)

The title will be 'Godhood VIII - The Scholar's Revelations'. None of the old Gods will make a direct reappearance. Instead, we are (again) playing a new pantheon. New (old?) roles might open up later.

Important notes about the new 'ruleset':

- I will now give the players a specific choice of spheres to choose from, and the players will apply for those. (To balance the pantheon and make for more promising combinations of Gods.)

- It is forbidden to make 'new intelligent races' or modify the human race to create different sub-species. (We've got enough of those naturally, don't give us cat-people!)
Of course, divine markings or blessings (curses) through descendency are allowed. The Gods might decide to try to create new races, but the consequences could be severe. Still, that does not mean you can not create legendary beings, like a dragon, or some other semi-divine or magical entity, which is intelligent. Just don't give me another race to manage. We don't need orcs, dwarves or cat-people. The interesting thing about humanity is that we do not have to be outwardly ugly to be ugly on the inside. (Nor are, for instance, all of our short, stout and alcoholic people industrious). The cultures do not have to be outlined by how the populations look.

- I will say 'no' to some things, or be merciless with consequences.
If you are trying to create an artifact capable of slaying gods while granting the wielder practical immortality with a single act, it will happen. And it will consume your god in the process. I will then replace you with someone else, leaving only your artifact to testify of your previous existence. Of course, I am not actively looking to kill of players. If you are unsure about something, ask me.

- At least one of the players will have to take responsibility for/commit themselves to updating the Godhood wiki. This is an extremely valuable tool, which will allow both you and I to keep up to date with the game, without ever having to scour for hours through what we wrote (no matter how good it is, it gets tiring to read it several times for that one detail or name you forgot!). If something has been posted and I did not comment negatively, nor did other players put it up to debate, it is thus a Godhood event and we can add it to the wiki!

- People are to call me out daily for every day I am late with a deadline. Every deadline is to be treated as a promise to commit, and while I might not always be able to make it, I should be pushed. I, like a lot of other people, need a push from time to time. Don't shy away from it.

- If I set a deadline for the players and you cross it without good reason, every player gets the right to push you to finish it, as do I. I will write you out if you are completely unresponsive, or will save your act for the next turn if you simply had no time to write a full act. In some cases, we could move the deadline for you. (For instance; There was a private matter which you had to take care of, or nobody minds to wait a few more days.)

I'll rewrite the first post and all further details for the next Godhood and clarify things where necessary. Feel free to comment on the rules I posted.

Now, as to the Gods for the next Godhood;

The gods of our pantheon will have the following spheres:

- Afterlife
- Earth
- The Oceans
- Love + Fire
- War + Thunder
- Pestilence + Poverty
- Family + Health
- Abundance

Write templates for the spheres that seem interesting to you, and send them to me by PM. Feel free to announce which sphere you would like too, or even share your template. Perhaps that will persuade people to try for another sphere, making the process more efficient in the end.

Multiple of the spheres seem great to you? Please write more than one god template! Label them from favorite to least favorite if you will. If not all of the positions can be filled, I will let you all know, and I will let you know who got which spheres and which are still open. This might be cause to move the deadline, but I hope to get all gods assigned somewhere during this week so that we can start on Sunday.

The goal is to create the most interesting possible combination of characters, not choose the best players for the 'most important roles'. Assume that you are all the 'best players'.

You're the best for still showing interest after several failed games, after all.

If there are any more questions- Feel free to ask! (And remember that I will better clarify this haphazard summary of rules in the new OOC thread as well.

Yours sincerely,

Caesar

P.S.; I like the university.

I must admit I completely approve of preventing the modifications of humans. Every time people made races, it seems to me we just ended up with more Cultures of Hats ("My people are good fighters! Mine are good smiths!", and yes, I've been guilty of this in other god games), which can hopefully be avoided this time. Sheet coming in today or tomorrow, hopefully.

Cultures of Hats

I hated those. I really did. You should have heard my rants. My little brother did.
So from now on, it's an official rule.
Sure, you might have a culture where people are generally good fighters (take Sparta, for instance), but that's not because of your race.

Yes- we have races in real life too. I live in the Netherlands, and I am better attuned to cold than people living in the Middle East. I am tall, and others are not.

But we don't need magical and mystical races for that. Humanity is diverse enough as it is.

Alright, then. You now occupy spot number one on my waitlist. I can't promise I will ever use it, but who knows?
I know that I don't.
