It is not necessary to be the patron god of villages, towns or anything else just to gain worshipers. For a god of the afterlife, or a god of death, this would be unbelievably hard. But there are different ways to achieve power. The Broker, for instance, receives attention and is generally respected. This gives him power.

The people of Toman worship two gods now. This has not decreased the power Unsobar receives at all. It is being part of a Pantheon that gives a god most of its strengths, even if they are not the main god of a tribe.

Edit; Basically, being the patron god of a tribe/individual mortal is best, but taking up a second or even third or fourth place surely does not hurt.

Do you know that you do not have to be a village's patron god just to get worshipers. The Broker, for instance, receives attention and is generally respected. This gives him power.

Yeah I know that :P I'm not aiming to be a patron god, not sure how the man who oversees the afterlife would have much time to be a patron god and what not.

Some of the Gods have the potential to make great patron gods (like Unsobar and Aradan). Other gods, like your own, can potentially find support in every single existing culture.

On purely hypothetical grounds, would it be possible for the Well of Souls to be modified to direct souls to the Broker instead? If so, how many acts would it take. I repeat: this is purely hypothetical and the Broker will not try to direct all the souls of the world to his gullet. Purely hypothetical, I assure you.
Hypothetically speaking (I can't speak for the other god of the dead) I'd be very tempted to inflict some rather intriguing plans upon your people, I mean I'm the god of the afterlife so your people may find their afterlife a confinement to walking the living world dreaming of nothing but nightmares in your tribes lands for such crimes. Perhaps even send a person wielding a certain unnamed sword to terrorize those that worship you for such crimes yet again. But of course we're only speaking hypothetically here.

Indeed. On that basis, it wouldn't matter. The Broker has no followers, only customers.

Hypothetically your customers and potential customers are free game as well, I mean you are taking souls that rightfully belong in the afterlife at times.

But...what if everyone is my customer? It is perfectly possible that my rituals become so common and safe that every mortal commits at least one.

Lol, I highly doubt that but I must admit it would be entertaining if that happened :3

Two minor details as to the Broker's actions;
Actually appearing in Toman should be listed as well.
None of the mortals are aware of the Well of Souls. After all- Who would travel so far into the icy wastes?

I was thinkin' that the story took place after the two Death Bros began their duties and eventually some mortals came upon their business. If that doesn't work out, then I'll go edit it when I have time.

Also, I was unaware that it was a tundra.

I do not think mortals will find out about the place anytime soon, especially since it is generally hidden from normal mortal view (as written in the wiki). That aside, we never know what happens.

And it is, in fact, a tundra. ^^

Aside from the fact that he spelled 'Feinor' as 'Feanor', I really do appreciate his writing.
And I'll respond to it personally, if you give me a short while.

Hmm i hope it is acceptable that i just grow massive trees whenever i want to talk to people as Ygdrass has nearly no other way for travelling to another location.

Gods act within their area of influence. This area is generally defined by the mortals that worship or at least know of them. Since you can use your trees to act outside of this area, I guess that they would actually be worth an act.

I'll let this one slip without an act, though, since it is your first. That will have the added disadvantage that the tree will wither and die at the end of the turn, instead of remain a permanent landmark.

I don't know if this is referring to me or someone else, but Feinor, riiight. Feanor's from the Silmarillion. In my defence, the names are really similar (I guess it's an intentional reference?).

Anyway - chess, also known as the most widely used war metaphor ever? Unsobar's so gonna steal it and bring it back to the Tomani. I'm glad some other tribe didn't invent it.

It did refer to you. It seems that, for some reason, part of what I wrote went to void.

Regardless- I suspected that you would use chess to your advantage.
