Carl stands again, turning to Serat.
"What do you have in mind? Maybe we can't run the blockade yet, but we can damn well kill these guys. Maybe attacking a camp?" He turns to the others.
"I saw some of your looks. You think I'm mad. My parents were killed because of the blockade. My parents died for this stupid thing. So you all have fun smuggling pencils into the Underearth, and I'd love to see where that gets you in this place."

((Do we get all of our classes things, or do we need to specify?))

Ruark gave a short barking laugh about the zealot's pencil comment. "Damn straight. Can turn quite a ticket on those black market pencils, better prices on illegal beagles, but they tend to yap when you stuff them in a guitar box," Johnny Ruark said dryly. "I don't care about your family issues, and considering that everyone in this room is a smuggler of one kind or another, I don't think you're going to find a lot of pity. We all grew up hard. Yeah, I'm going to smuggle, take the low-risk jobs as I can, talk and run my way out of danger. I ain't a killer, and I don't owe the cartel my life."
Johnny shrugged, sighing a little at the burning fire in the other smuggler's eyes. "Your parents gave you a life, I don't know if it was a good one or a hellish one, but it does make their lives a little pointless if you throw yours away over vengeance. Still," Johnny added in his usual, lighter, tone, "it'd make a fine song."
His briefly serious expression now back to a cavalier grin, he turned to the woman cradling a heavy weapon like it was her very own baby. ((Jade)) "If by fun you mean parachuting down to a land that decided to make magic dominant over science, negotiating deals and/or stealing from people who would kill you given half a chance, then ascending the middle ocean on accident prone retrieval rockets, and finally selling the goods we bought and stole back to people who will cheerfully gouge us for every credit, then I've got a ten gallon barrel of fun with your name on it. That is," Ruark amended, "if you don't mind working with scales over there."

Sevten turned to the man who had addressed him. "I was not originally a combat robot. However, upon rebuilding by the Cartel I was refitted as a combat robot, specificallly a Tactician or "Spitfire." As to teaming up... I will peak to another person first, but that seems like a reasonable request." Sevten then turned to the man who had beckoned to him, with goggles, and walked over.

Shade listened as the others spoke, some made themselves sound crazy as they blabbed on about killing every Imperial they could, some about how they would go about their work, and some talked about grouping together. She mostly ignored them as they talked, taking the gear she saw fit, and placing it in her bag, in her gun holsters, or in the ammo belt she now had clipped across her shoulder hidden by a thin veil of dark cloth. As the man Carl spoke of his dead parents, and how that was the reason he despised the Imperials a thread in her head snapped, and with a suden flick of motion she had a revolver pressed against his head as she spoke, "You think your parents are the only ones that died, because of that blockade, is that why you despise the Imperials!? The reason you should despise them is for killing thousands, slaving the lower class as they choose, saying what laws must be followed, and breaking them when they see fit! What you should hate the Imperials for is the thousands of lives they have taken to hold together an Empire corrupt to its very core, weep for the thousands that have died, not for the death of two!"

Dorian let out a low, raspy chuckle as he listened to the byplay of his new acquaintances. Leaning towards Ruark, he murmured "Some of these folks seem to be a few sprockets short of a Landrunner, eh? Oh, sorry, my name- the circles I'm used to, folks aren't too forthcoming with identifying information. Dorian Chronis, at your service, expert roboticist and ace pilot extraordinaire! Pleased to make your acquaintance, Johnny."

Stepping back, his gaping grin includes Jade in the conversation. "Well! I don't know as ten gallons is quite enough fun to go around, milady, but I suppose if you're going to bring your baby there with you then I'm willing to share."

"A few sprockets short," Ruark murmured back to Dorian, "would be the understatement of the century. Well, in spite of the plethora of crazy, it's a pleasure to meet you Dorian. I don't know if I can say that I'm an expert or an ace at anything, but I know how to put on a show, and I know how to make myself look like anyone." Ruark snorted quietly as he recalled a particularly interesting request. "Even you, given enough time and adequate cosmetics."

Location : The Cartel, auxiliary base 56-&e
Time : 1530 Imperial time, fifth day of the fourth month, year 5660

Just as Shade raises her gun and finishes her mini-speech, the same man - or is he? It is hard to tell in bright light - enters and raises an eyebrow.

"Girl, if you lower that gun right now, I'll forget about it. Keep it up for another second or two, and you'll have a nice meeting with Mrs. Steel Pointy Bullet and Steel Exploding Bullet here. Don't ever forget that the Cartel is completely filled with only the most fit; even the highest man has once been a field operator . . . Anyhow." He clears his throat before speaking again.

"I hope you've all wrote down what you have. Accurate records won't do you any good, but inaccurate ones can and will harm you. You all have access to the full facilities of auxiliary base 56-dash-epsilon-ampersand, along with a small list of other bases of the Cartel. You are free to move among all bases you have permission to. The list is in the lounge.
"Now, what if you stumble upon a Cartel base you don't have access to? The first thing I suggest you do is drop anything you may be holding and sloowly back away. Barring that, make sure to not be threatening, or your parents or significant ones may greet a ... 'significantly' less substantial version of yourself.
"'That's all and good, Mr. Cartel Person,' you say, 'now what do I do next?' Like I have state one hour six minutes before, you -are- free to do whatever you may choose. But-
" - he emphasized 'but' with a raised finger - "- I hope you don't go running off into Sky Tower like the little steam train who could. I suggest that you start with a simple, low-profile smuggling, or make yourself useful in a raid or trade escort. You could also try and make your own independent connections: risky, yes, but if you set up a good network, the Cartel may pay to buy that from you.
"I must be boring you. You are free to go. I, or another Cartel representative, shall be meeting you in about one month.
"

He turned to go, before stopping and adding,
"Ah, one last thing - use the term 'grocery store' whenever you are not in a secure Cartel base. Finally, please do submit a group listing (however temporary it may be) as soon as possible."

He exited through a door that hissed open before him.

The lounge is to the opposite side.

Be sure to record anything you don't want me to forget, like what items you got, how much you earned, your HP . . .

Write down the fact that you each have 20/20 HP.

(On this paper is written the names and coordinates of the basic clearance bases.)

Auxiliary Base 56-e& : The base you are in.
Auxiliary Base 58-e+ : A base to the south, near the Sky Tower.
Auxiliary Base 01-w : The closest auxiliary base to the Imperial City.
Auxiliary Base 01-w^ : Another auxiliary base near the Imperial City.
Relay Base FFFFF : The only relay base a basic-cleared Cartel member can access. Relay bases have better services and more high-paying missions as a whole.

Quote from: Lounge mission board
(On another board in the lounge is a short list of missions that are waiting to be taken.)

Note: The first number indicates the type of mission. The second number and third number indicate the predicted difficulty. The last number is the minimum people required. If a special character is appended to the mission code, please consult a senior Cartel member.

Mission 0x105324SalesmanSell ten packages of high-quality gunpowder to the Tabatan government, a regular customer. Must be discreet.
Mission 0x11A334&&PaymentA certain 'friend' of ours' in the Underearth, one person by the name of Frawda Whey,  has dared to not pay for the Cartel's goods. Go make her an offer she can't refuse.
Mission 0xFFFFFF+++Blockade - EndgameSolve the blockade of Sky Tower once and for all.
Mission 0xF0D121BreakthroughThe Imperial Library has been conducting research on the Sky Tower's blockaders secretly, spreading out the information to various labs. One of them is very lightly guarded as part of the ruse. Enter, extract, and obliterate.
Mission 0x203B82Where's My Rations?Destroy or retrieve the supplies of an outlying Imperial post. It will probably be very lightly guarded, by the newbies of the squad.
Mission 0x40B752The Flower Killer (code name)The Cartel Research and Development Branch Foxtrot requires the cores of a number of elementals to finish its new MOO-platform weapon chip.
Mission 0x512032/='Friends'The Imperial Thorns and Flowers as a whole are clean, but some individuals are inclined towards the Cartel. Pay a visit to one of them and check up on their loyalty situation. Be sure to take the Imperial uniform from the armory. It would not be wise to waltz into an Imperial stronghold in a wildlander's clothes.

The Cartel also encourages you to take initiative and strike out on an independent venture. Note that any losses taken during said ventures is solely your responsibility.

((Hoo boy, lots of stuff to catch up. Rangers don't have specialist equipment, alrighty.  :D Also, yay! I can defy physics! >:D))
Spoiler: Syra Liene (click to show/hide)

Syra stood inconspicuously behind the other nine, against the backwall of the shady room, picking two revolvers as her equipment while spending about ninety of her precious credits for the rest. She stayed silent as she listened to the rest, picking out hints of personality and ideas. None of them were of her kin, preferring tech and weapon acumen. The body was the perfect weapon, most didn't realize, it only needed to be honed to ensure it's constant use. Nevertheless, she was surprised and impressed by the inclinations of the others, for they were driven by a common cause.

Before this, she was surprised to see the amount of people interested with this prospect, of motley origins and birth. She'd bet none of them knew about her 'other half' as she did appear perfectly human, or even attempt to speak with her. It was for the better anyway, she guessed, they were all here for one cause only - the Sky Tower barricade, and that was to fall no matter what. Personal friendships and alliances were second priority.

Though she did consider the latter very much until the Cartel Member spoke again.

She then picked up a scrap of paper and wrote on it, indicating her name after a small note.

Quote from: Mission 0x203B82
Syra Liene - Ranger

After doing such, she placed the paper down on the nearest holding receptacle and leaned on the backwall, crossing her arms while waiting.

Looking at the mission board, Carl realised he may have to start a bit smaller than he had hoped. He turned to Shade.
"Unfortunatly yes, I would be interested, although we may have very different approaches.
Unless, Serat, you want to strike out and find us a camp?"

Facing Rurark Jade speaks

I like the idea of low risk jobs, and even if we would move on to more risky operations later we need a shakedown run of any team so we know how each-other can function, so yeah I will provide fire support for you, my name is jade and this here Emphasising her big gun Is Cecil, don't let him say hello to you

Also what do each of the heavy weapons do> Especially the Cannonball Technique

Jade walks up, cradling her beloved Cecil, Claiming  A semi automatic Pistol, and a Handcannon for use when Cecil is too close, and then purchasing a survival kit and a set each of smoke bombs and balloon bombs stashing the other 50 credits for later use. "Hey boys, I don't rightly care what mission I go on just try and make it a little fun ok?"
