Has anybody else had a fortress where "nothing could go wrong" and then suddenly got blind-sided by the LAST thing that you would expect to happen, causing your fortress to fall? An example would be where you have a *TOTALLY stable economy, an elite army, and happy slaves workers, but they all die from a horrible disease.

I have that happen plenty...I personally play with population limit of 20 and everything after is purely by births alone...so it gets up there to about 40 people after a long time then some horribly unfortunate series of events begins and wipes out most of my fort. Most common would probably be a random military death followed by multiple or long sieges that result in my military being widdled away and then my other people mercilessly slaughtered. I don't use traps either.

Cage traps everywhere, soldiers prepared for battle, and then.... A hatch up top I forgot about lets the enemy in, everyone is mercilessly slaughtered, and the last man slams a floodgate switch and floods the place. He survived by virtue of having a magmasafe door between him and death.
