So, what's this new change I hear about? Also, are there still asshole empires running around obliterating newbs left and right? I enjoyed SoH after having gotten used to the lag, but it just pissed me off how I often logged off one day to come on the next and see all my 2-3 colonies enslaved by some TL 20+ empire.

yeah, it's more fun with other people than without them.

Man, I waited days to get to interact with people, and the first I meet always turn out to be dicks. I guess I'm just unlucky then and should give the SoH community another chance.

I haven't played this in quite a long time, and I'm rather curious about it. If we can get some kind of organization going on I would be interested. Last time I played I had a nice city set up on a planet and got it built up relatively decently considering I didn't know what I was doing. Spent ages using an engine trick to flatten the whole land too. I've got some OCD so if the land wasn't exactly flat I would do everything in my power to make it flat >=(

Afraid I may waste more time doing that then doing actual helpful things =p

Ah yeah, I remember that game. Got bored w/ it was was too afraid to play after the h@XX0Rzzz broke in. Maybe you guys will get me to reinstall :P.

yea...one thing about the game...there always will be a bigger/smarter fish thats out there, large empires can be pirated(trade ships blown up, colonies captured and drained of money, for every step forward they take, an angry person takes them 2 steps back), there is soo many things that can be done against someone who you dont like it isn't funny...if someone takes over your empire and says "trololol you cant do anything about it", they are flat out lying and trying to use a scare tactic against you, once you know enough about the game, it takes all of a week or so to get tech, much less if you have some friends

Wow, more interest than I expected.

Perhaps we should discuss what we want the empire to be, now.

We need 1) an empire name, 2) a form of government, 3) a flag for the empire, and 4) an empire species.

The name can be pretty much anything you can imagine, and the flag is just a jpeg image you upload upon creating the empire. The forms of government, however, are quite varied.

I suppose we'd have to have a vote on form of government, though I'd be leaning more towards something democratic.

As for species, it's quite varied and you can create a wide variety of creatures to be yours. The obvious choice would be to create a race of dwarves, but again that can be discussed.

I'd just like to make a case for republic- it includes democratic elements that limit power, while still giving benefits to those who have been around longer and have contributed more.

Incidentally, I really have no interest in being the leader of this empire once it gets started. I imagine we'd have to hold elections to get a leader initially.
