I'mn not saying that we SHOULDN'T do the hitlist, what I am saying is that we should do the hitlist as part of a forum turn.

Lillipad's suggestion, as far as I understand it, is to do the jobs in the order Enemy Mine, Bajahahahaha (if nothing more important comes up) and then maybe Hero Time, with the Hit List mission done during forum turns somewhere in that timeline. My response was that people will probably want to swap up that order so that we do Enemy Mine followed by Hero Time followed maybe by Bajahahahaha with the Hit List as a forum turn instead. It's not a question at this point as to whether we're going to do Enemy Mine next, or whether we're going to do Hit List as a forum turn, it's just a question of what the order for the other two are going to be.

E: I also say that we should be rational about this and avoid doing Hero Time because A] we've got stuff to do that would save more lives (even if they're less emotionally urgent) and B] we don't exactly have the best track record with handling hostage situations in a way that the hostages don't get killed.

We can do Bajahahahaha later, do to the extended time limit on that job. Not to mention that the reputation we'd get from doing the Hero Time job would be good as well. I mean, we need to focus both on external AND internal threats. And we can't let mages in our territory think they can get away with such bullshit.

Enemy Mine and Adam Sandler in sessions, with the others being done in the forum. I suggest this course because there's almost no chance we'll get 14 turns + next session done before the session after this one, but the other jobs have plenty of time to be exhausted.

To address the issue of our luck and skill with diplomacy. Virtually none of that matters in the forum. The GMs usually keep human error from interfering in a successful roll within the forum, the only exceptions being when the GM thinks it's too hard a task, or needs something bad to happen so something else has the ability to happen. So Ariel could potentially talk down a suicide bomber, despite being one of the worst offending purple hairs when it comes to speech in the game, so long as she successfully rolls in a forum turn.

Have we been watching the same games? I'm the one that talked the principal into agreeing to help us in the first mission, talked to the sea imps at all during the second mission, convinced Robyn to help us by offering to teach the baby werewolves how to read, convinced the imps to "try to kill us via old age" and convinced that one warg to stand down while I healed him. If anything, I've been more successful at diplomacy than could be reasonably expected.

The actual problem we have with diplomacy is that we have a wildly diverse cast of characters in this party all trying to opperate in an egalitarian fashion. As such, we're going to have a really divided, disunited front going on, since everyone's trying to argue from different perspectives using different and often incompatable ideas as leverage. Worse yet, since our party has such wildly different perspectives, it's almost inevitable that someone is going to unexpectedly take offense mid-discussion and pull a gun or be an elf that gets on the dwarf's nerves or refuse to take the prisoner alive just because he's a cannibal or try to talk the party into taking the monster home for research or something like that. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that we're not well suited to dealing with hostage situations or negotiations where we need to all agree on something fast. Our strengths lie elsewhere, and we should play to them. Or figure out a way to have only one person speaking on behalf of the New Order at a time.

Or we can have one of us go distract them while the rest go rescue them.

EDIT: Aura rewards from last session. (Likely missing things.)

You seem to misunderstand. The way I see it, literally the only reason Ariel can succeed in speech is because she sucks so hard at it. If she were any better at conveying herself properly, she'd fail a lot more often. That's the type of character she's become, from what I can see.

And I'm pretty sure in the Magia universe, our merry band of five isn't supposed to ever have similar views other than 'oh yeah, we work for that guy, cool' or something similar. We're all supposed to represent different parts of the "law" that dictates where we are. Laws tend not to get along well.

I'm not really understanding you there. If Ariel were better at conveying herself, she would fail in conversations more often? Bwah? The way I see it, the more often you succeed at conversations, the better you are at conversing, because that's what is meant by "Good at Conversation": being able to get good results regularly and frequently when having a conversation. So, anything that I could do that would make conversations fail more often would definitionally be something that makes me worse at conversations.

Unless by "convey herself properly" you mean something like "convey herself in a way consistant with conventional taste and decorum", "convey herself in an open and honest way, instead of trying to play down her least pleasant attributes", "convey herself in a way that isn't blithe and flippant" or something else along those lines, then I'm still misunderstanding you. And if you did mean something like that, then those are some of Ariel's personality traits that I've been trying to play up, so I'm happy that people are picking up on them.

Think about her successes in speech for a moment. Most of the time, she's only succeeding because her her purple hair and amateur speaking skills are working in unison. No fully sane, non-purple haired person in her situation would try to talk to water imps through a demon cat, or try to convince someone to age her group to death.
And when I say convey, I mean the message that she sends out to others when she talks versus the message she thinks she's sending out.

That's just a matter of perspective, I think. If you take it for granted that magic is just like any other science, with it's own laws and rules, then it quickly becomes obvious that as long as you fufill the letter of the Laws of Magic, you're free to trample all over the spirit as much as you want. Not that there's actually there is a "spirit of the law" in physics to trample over or anything, but you get the picture. Once you've got that mindset, using a demon to talk to imps, exploiting a technicality in the wording of a magical contract and using "curses" to your own benefit is just good sense. I don't know if treating magic like a special subset of physics makes you insane, but it does certainly seem to be effective, at least instrumentally.

I'm pretty sure admitting that you're abusing magic like that is going to cause some GM backlash to balance Ariel out. You lucked out pretty hard with having Weird and Haika as the GMs, they're pretty chill people when it comes to character abuse.

Off/on topic. We keep forgetting to do the Magia Champion voting thing...

Well, like I said: there's no spirit of the law of abuse in physics. Whatever happens is what the letter of the law says will happen. Rules like f=ma and a^2 + b^2  = c^2 don't have a special clause for "unless that would let humans make rockets" in it. They apply every single time, regardless of the implications. If magic works like physics, then there isn't going to be a magical (or GM) backlash for applying whatever magical principles we discover to solve our problems. And if the rules of magic don't work like the rules of physics, and it does have lots of complex high level clauses like "unless the person getting cursed wants cursed, in which case it doesn't count and something terrible should happen to them", then I'll happily eat crow and accept whatever that brings.

And yeah, we should do the Champion Voting thing.

I personally find no problem with pushing the boundaries of what you can do, and looking for loop holes or turning curses into advantages. This is a game about experimentation and finding new magic and extreme random criticals. XD

Just know that if you nitpick too much, you can always end up finding something you don't want. Like dwarves digging too deep.

Turn is 3/5ths the way done. I should have it up this afternoon. If you get repsonces up quick, there might be a tiny chance of another one before the session.
