More accurate summary:
It is the year 2014, and the Archmage Council of Magical Los Angeles has been assassinated. The sole survivor, the mysterous Sapphire Wisp, has gone into hiding and now seeks to recruit younger mages to help her rebuild and retake the city from her many enemies. They are:
-Master Henry Calbrand, earth mage and long-time member of the Chaos Circle, a multiplanar organization of ritualists devoted to the destruction of organized religion. Servant of a powerful earth elemental named Terraphidite, but has no followers of his own. On-and-off romantic interest to Kathryn. Owns a small fortress in the Basalt Vaults of the Elemental Plane of Earth, complete with Gargoyle Forge and internet connection.
-Archmage Kathryn Lynch, a detective from New York who's discovered in recent years that she has a talent for water magic and feats of supernatural action heroism. Recently recruited into the Chaos Circle by Henry. As first new Archmage to be elected in LA, she helps govern the city along with Sapphire Wisp and the reluctant alchemist Palorur. Has one child, who happens to be a half-dragon.
-Adrian Eriksson, an ex-marine PhD physicist with a talent for enchanting and techo-magery. Has a shotgun that shoots lightning bolts, a military-grade flying gunship that he's been dying to try out and a mysterious secret project that involves enchanting a server to hold a demi-plane and possibly replacing the LA police force with computer generated clone-cops. Happily married to Daintyroot, a half-elf, half-dragon vampire that we rescued from the infernal prison of Tartarus.
-The ghost of Ariel Taylor, a bloodthirsty soul mage who is also the party healer for some unfathomable reason. Has killed everything from cats to elves to dragons to herself. Has ties to a naga crime family. Lives in a gingerbread house on the banks of the River Styx with her familiar, Frankie, and an undead roc that she's currently dating. Wants to become an Archmage for a decade or two before retiring and settling down for remainder of her unlife as monarch of a kingdom somewhere in the outer planes.
-Kestrel Harrison, an (NPC) mystic who works for Sapphire Wisp and uses his mystic powers to peer into the future and find us missions. Is forbidden from answering questions without being paid to (on pain of getting cursed by his powers) but is willing to accept payment in the form of cash, gold, gems and, for those of the female persuasion, sexual favours. Is a philanderer, but generally a pretty good guy when he's not hitting on you. Has a tragic backstory involving his wife and children being killed by his enemies.
And they fight:
-The Boston Archmages have invaded LA and decided to impose their corrupt East Coast rulership on the west, using the mystic foresight of Sweeny the Seafoam Mystic, Captain Goldberg's aircraft carrier full of flying war golems and Fitzpatrick the Lucky Leprechaun's vast riches.
-The Magical Government of Baja California, which is considering whether or not they want to annex Upper California.
-Mark Travis, a mechanical demon in human form who likes to murder small children in the process of training them to become soul mages.
-The Court, a group of ancient vampires who are the ones that decided that magic should be a secret on Earth. Almost certainly evil and probably behind the assassinations of the previous Archmages. They also hate mystics, werewolves, mundanes, elves and basically everyone that isn't a sentient undead human.
-Various other people who are no longer important since we've already killed them, including: a werewolf gangster; Purgoth the Unclean; a vampire that tried to turn the muggle population of LA into vampires; Carly the Pod-Person spy; a series of giant tomato demons; a cat-person mercenary; some sex-slave merchants and a man-eating black naga.
