Something that takes place entirely in the mind of the protagonist is a fucking awful ending for an epic trilogy.

Calling it dream would be incorrect. Its more of an internal struggle inside Shepard. Try watching the videos I put in the OC. They MAY help you understand :P

The indoctrination ending actually looks like a pretty good fit. IF it's what was actually intended to be 'figured out' I will forgive BioWare to some degree because it's actually pretty cool. OTOH I would still consider them tremendous asshats for making the ending so obscure and dependent upon DLC clarification.

But really, I think it's probably just wishful thinking. Though perhaps it's better to just consider it canon whether or not BioWare does for the sake of not having played through three games for a completely crap ending.

Bioware have been pretty clear that the indoctrination thing is not something that actually happens in the game.

Well, given that I was still hearing the cries of "ME3's ending sucks" and the video only had 800k views out the millions who played ME3, you could've fooled me.

And you think this video is the only place this idea has ever been suggested?  The other mass effect thread discussed this quite a bit so this isn't even the first thread on this forum.  I don't even think it's even the second.

The official BioWare forums, SA, Reddit ... yeah, the indoctrination theory has been discussed a couple thousand times. To put it mildly.

I understand why people want it to be true: the alternative is that the plot-hole heavy ending is intended ... and that isn't an easy thing to swallow.

ME 3 was pretty amazing (IMHO) up until the last few minutes. The thing is, those last few minutes were just stupid. Synthetics that destroy organics to prevent them from creating synthetics that might destroy organics ... k. They abandoned the Dark Energy plot (which wasn't that much better, from what I gather ... see ME2, Tali's missions) for something that was somehow more ridiculous.

Star kid is stupid. The Buzz Aldrin "my sweet" ending was creepy. The final words of the game were "downloadable content." There is so much to be disappointed with at the end.

(Was even more angry knowing that Casey Hudson had said "It's not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C." (link to article containing quote))

I took a look at that article and got a chuckle at the MASSIVE sprawling citadel, chock-full of fetch quests for great planet scanning! Those are some pretty blatant lies right there, even if I did enjoy the majority of the game.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Can somebody point towards a direct quote of BioWare saying 'nope, this actually sane and cool ending is not what we meant by "artistic vision"', rather than just claiming that they already disowned it? Color me skeptical, but I'd rather hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

If they ACCIDENTALLY created such a cool possibility through moronic placement of plot holes and were then too stupid to just say 'oh yeah that's actually what we meant to do all along', they really do deserve to utterly fail and crumble into the depths of gaming hell.

If it turns out that the indoctrination theory is all bullcrap, then I'm interested as to how they explain these things, among fixing the plotholes in the DLC:
Firstly, Why the moment after you get hit by the beam in the final battle has shrubs and trees from your dreams and, more importantly, why your eyes glow EXACTLY like an indoctrinated person in the CONTROL and SYNTHSIS endings, but not the DESTROY ending. Not to forget why the "Shepard Gasp of Air" only occurs when you have almost all of the war assets and if you choose the DESTROY option.

I saw a video which told of EA's new DLC which is supposed to clarify things up. It turns out that the developers did not come up with the indoctrination theory. They didn't intend Shepard to be indoctrinated, the ending just was absurd.

Hey guys, remember LOST? ME3 is basically that, as far as I can tell.
