Hopping on the bandwagon in 3d
« on: May 03, 2012, 02:41:42 am »

This is like those daily drawing challenges, but I'm gonna be using Blender and won't be limiting myself to a single day.  I'm hoping to work through one every 2-3 days, depending on how much free time I have.  Come at me bros.

E: Just to warn you guys, I'm woefully out of practice and am absolutely terrible at modelling characters!

Okay, i'll be the first to bite. A toroidal ribbon! that should be pretty cool to make, and they look pretty cool once done also since they technically have only 1 side to them :)

Digging's a lot like surgery, see -- you grab the sharp thing and then drive the sharp end of the sharp thing in as hard as you can and then stuff goes flying and then stuff falls out and then there's a big hole and you're done. I kinda wish there was more screaming, but rocks don't hurt so I guess it can't be helped.

Could you link me to an image of one of these?  I'm not 100% sure what you mean here.

Can't find an image but I can write an image for you, maybe?

Imagine a length of ribbon. It is very thin and of some length. Now imagine taking one end of the ribbon in your hand and twisting it 180 degrees so there is a half twist in the ribbon. Now, you join the two ends of ribbon and secure them with tape (or fuse some other way). This creates a toroidal structures that has essentially only one side to it. If you run your finger along it without lifting it you will touch all areas on the ribbon before you get back to your starting location.

I hope that was a good enough explanation. I can't find a good picture to describe it right now. If you understand that's awesome, but if you don't I'll look for another image in depth tomorrow. Tomorrow because it is now 3 something in the morning and I need to get to sleep :(

@Blargityblarg: I believe you are correct. I may have screwed up my symantics on this one :(

How about a katana? I figure the curved edge might be a challenge for you.

Katana sounds cool :)

Anyone else want to throw out a suggestion?  It'd be nice to have one or two queued up in case I finish one while without internet access.

Do a shoe. If you can do that, I will humbly resign, for I cannot draw shoes.

Okaayyy, that ought to be enough suggestions for now.  There are a couple in there that I'm really gonna struggle with, but I guess it's the only way to improve :)
