Apparently heroes are just straight up OP right now.

Playing Horatio, every system has a cloned hero that doubles(or triples) the production of the system and makes a crapton of food. Almost everything is constructed and researched in 1 turn, and I have a ton of leftover dust. I highly doubt my craver neighbours pose a serious threat.

They're only over powered when you're Horatio.  You have the best hero and then cloned them.  Cloning keeps their exp, level, and skills, all for 200-300 dust.  Any other empire would have to luck out and get a second (and third, fourth, fifth) admin/corp hero and level them up normally.

So yeah, I literally only have like 4 gripes with this game, and they're all typical things for an alpha, and will undoubtedly be fixed soon.

1. Balance
2. Camera control in battles
3. When in battles, even with missiles/beams they all use the same graphical effect for shooting stuff (looks like cannonfire, though I might just be doing something wrong)
4. Little cosmetic ship customisation, hoping for more of that, but it's not critical

How are the system requirements for this game? Pretty low?

I have had no trouble running it (albeit on low graphical settings, but I haven't tried higher) on a laptop with a 2.0GHz core 2 duo, and a nVidia GeForce 9300m GS graphics card. So it's not very demanding.

I've got a similar processor, but with an Intel graphics card. It still runs on Low settings.

1) Recognized, on the dev punch list for alpha 2
2) Recognized, low priority
3) There is actually a difference.  Yellow shots are kinetics, blue are beams, and the really slow rocket looking ones are missiles.
4) Probably unlikely.

The colour of the shots change depending on what type of sub-weapon you are using.

Not that I've ever noticed.  And I've used just about every weapon tech up through level 5

Well, I have noticed a colour difference between the level one lasers (green bolts) and some of the higher tech energy weapons (cyan or blue bolts).

On the Amplitude forums there is a poll in which people are voting on changing energy weapon aesthetics. 95,21% are in favor of making beams that reach from one ship to the other (although 62,87% are okay with having both beams and bolts, so long as there are beams), 2,4% don't know and 2,4% want bolts only. The devs will probably make the change once the essentials are done.

So I ended up buying the game and won my first game with the Sophons.

There are lots of stuff I've either missed or that I'd like to see added, actually:
- I still haven't seen how you can upgrade your older ships to their updated versions
- There should be an auto-launch and rendez-vous option. My strategy was to do lots of small Destroyers (1 command point) with missiles. They are expendable, quick to be build, and you can have lots of them. Each of them destroys one enemy ship, so yeah. Missiles are a little OP :)
- The race screens should show the race effects more prominently, AND their causes. Kind of like Crusader Kings character traits.
- I never managed to propose a single treaty that was accepted. I guess Diplomacy isn't quite there yet? What I liked about GalCiv2 was how well it worked. I would play everyone against one another, make big allies, pacify enemies, until I was strong enough.
- Changing 50% Industry -> Science/Dust actually does not work/does not update correctly through the empire screen. I also loaded a save game where a planet was still producing lots of Dust from 50% Ind -> Dust even though I had changed it to something else.
- Instead of having one production item that changes industry to dust/science, a slider that said HOW MUCH industry you'd like to convert to either Dust or Science would be great. This would allow you to continue producing ships while still getting some of that much needed Dust.

I also really like the RPG aspect of heroes. I wish there could be "mini-heroes", that worked just like heroes, but with a fraction of the bonuses. You'd still be able to level them up, so you could specialise systems or fleets, which would be cute. You could have governors for planets and commanders for fleets.

I'm sure there's tons more stuff I'm missing now. I should do another playthrough, but might wait until I'm
