Yeah, I've had my eye on this one too. Dat tech tree.

Plus the ship designs look pretty nice, especially the big Sophon cruisers that I've seen.

I'm classing this in the too good to be true category until I have overwhelming evidence that it delivers on all those sweet features.

I'm tempted to buy this just for the Horatio race alone.

First off a question: Has anyone figured out a way to set up tradelanes?

I will post a more detailed review later, but this game is bloody great.

Not in any single particular, but it sorta combines to be awesome.

Just personal preference. Having played MOO, GalCiv, Homeworld and so on has left me looking for ship customization where ships are specialized units used in conjunction - e.g. Long range sniping beam ships, carriers, close range rail gun behemoths and so on. The 5 phase idea isnt quite "flexible" enough for my liking- I dont want to have to go through missile spam if I dont want to. I want to be able to keep my range picking off ships, or charge for the kill, or outflank with stealth craft. That said, this is a very minor nitpick all things considered.

There is a thread discussing this on thier forum: http://forums.amplitude-studios.com/showthread.php?621-Combat

That's an interesting discussion. I do like that they're trying a somewhat different approach, but I'd have to play it for a bit to see if it's something I would actually enjoy. From that forum thread, it looks like most people are hoping for a bit more control, or a different kind of limited control.

Those eyes don't look very healthy. I'd say they needed sunglasses...

...but who wears shades in the cold night of space?

Get it? Cause they're in space? That's all I got.

When things are listed as being -2 dust on improvement, does that mean it costs 2 dust to build or that it lowers dust production per turn by 2?

I read somewhere that trade isn't fully implemented yet, so for now I think it's automatic but I'm not sure if it happens between civs yet or just your own systems.

The Endless are an extinct race that may have created some of the existing civs for their own exploitation(bird people gladiators, cravers as weapons, ect). They left behind some ancient ruins/artifacts, you know, the standard extinct super race.

Dust is basically money but apparently it has "secrets to unlock." So it may be some kind of magic thing or something, I'm not sure.

jhxmt, I'm going to add some of your post to the op. You seem to have gotten more play time in then me, I'm working currently so I'll try to post my views when I get some time off to play this more.

One thing I'd really like to see added, is custom names for ships, heroes, planets, ect. With that, LPs/community games would be really fun to read.

So apparently Dust is some sort of high-tech semi-divine particle. Exposure results in enhanced physical and cranial capabilities.

-2 dust on improvement means -2 dust per turn, as in upkeep.

Also, I noticed something quite funny. I found a planet with a "ancient artifacts" anomaly (+2 dust, +3 research (or something like that)). In it's description it says: "Away teams, wearing red shirts to be easily found in the event of death, have found..."

I cracked up upon reading it.
