What does 'kirun' mean? Would it be a word for crops in general?

The raw defines kirun as "mushroom". So if someone refers to kirun without giving any context, I think it would make sense to assume that means erzon. On the other hand, if the conversation is about making dye, kirun would obviously refer to storofid, etc.

Edit: Could crops in general be reffered to as esherok (esh[on] (good) + erok (plant)), oserok (os[ust] (tame) + erok) or userok (use[n] (help) +erok)?

I like both
plant = good + plant
        =tame + plant

Perhaps tame is little bit better since it's more descriptive and could be used with animals too.

Similarly, general word for alcohol could be
alcohol = good + water

We should start focus on root words like mentioned before. From them it should be possible to form most words, given that we go that way.
I suggest that we should discuss words one category at a time, starting from races.

I agree about the missing root words but I think how we go about it is a fairly big question that needs input from as many people as possible. In DFTalk 17 Toady said that the words in the raw-files are just computer generated. The two immediate options that occur to me are

1) just making up words and voting on which sounds best or

2) working backwards from a word that exists in the raw and assume that the word we need is a component in it, for example we have the word for fiend, zotir, which logically could come from a root word meaning kobold, such as zot.

As for the booze, Nonsequitor had the idea that Arokian Dwarven should have alcohol as a root word and the word for water should be come from that. That may make forming a some other related words a bit tricky but I still support that idea, it just fits the dwarven culture so well.

Well,

we should vote, now

Proposition 1 : The words - as they are now- are preserved. The other forms (verbs, adjectives) are built on this.
Proposition 2 : The words - as they are now- are preserved, but firstly principles are to be defined, and if some words are against these principles, they will be changed. The other forms (verbs, adjectives) will be built on rules defined by us.
Proposition 3 : As the words are currently completely random, there is no need to preserve them. We will rebuild vocabulary from scratch, and only a few words will be retrieved from the former language.

Prop 2 makes most sense.

Okay, seems that prop 2 is to be chosen !
Now, I suggest we discuss about plural and singular, and after that about adjective and verbs formation.

Let's take some words :
Hair : razes
Hammer : nil
Hand : otad
Bridge : sazir
Terror : angzak
Large : or
wipe : rôber
wood : lolum
Zeal : kizest

What would you propose for their plural ? And for the adjective form (if there is one) or the name form, and the verb form ?

What about a prefix? If we have a word for 'a lot' we could use it as a plural prefix
Maybe not, but it's still an idea.

Word ending for plural would be easy but maybe little too indo-European.

Yes, of course. It's an idea. If you want, you can also propose for singular/dual/plural or anything else. But what should be the mark of the "plural" with any form you like.

What would a dwarf say? I'd imagine that for the dwarf the quantity is pretty irrelevant, at least until there's no alcohol left.

My suggestion for the prefix or suffix would be the simple word "tun".

niltun - hammers
tunil - hammers.

The problem becomes when you have two consonants together like that.
