I use the Numpad in most games, especially in DF. Diagonalness, it is amazing.

Both. Because... I'm unfaithful, I suppose.
Page up and down need love too. Home and end, now that's just kinky.

No really I just use the arrow keys and just hit both the up or down key and the left or right for diagonal. I'm surprised no one else uses it that way?
That's 2 movements. Big difference in adventure mode.

Get a big laptop! That's what I made sure to do, specifically for games that needed the numpad.

Arrow keys, because my first laptop didn't have a number pad. When I got a new one a few years later, it had a number pad but I was used to arrow keys so I kept using them. I use 'em with nethack too, for the same reason.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Arrow keys, simply because I'm not used to using numpad for much.

I use arrow keys unless I need to move diagonally or through z-levels in adventurer

I used hjkl in nethack. I remember trying to create a good set of related keybindings for DF, but i was never satisfied.

I use the arrow keys in DF.  Sometimes I use the numpad in adventure mode, but I have to think about it.

In MMO's, I sometimes try to use ESDF, but it involves just a ton of keybinding changes to switch from WASD.  I suppose if I played more roguelikes, I'd use the numpad more, but I didn't even know it was an option in fortress mode.

My older laptops did not have numpads, and holding down the fn key is annoying and doesnt work with shift. But I fixed that problem now and am happy. Except for the fact I still use arrow keys out of habit.

You can use the arrow keys to move diagonally in Adventure mode. It would just look weird from an in-game obverser's point of view. And you would starve to death very quickly.

arrows because laptop doesn't have numpad,
and I can one-hand a shift-arrow for quick movement.

Numpad, because Sierra trained me to it back in the 80s.
