Which version do you like the best? I prefer 40d if I'm not mistaken.

VERSIONS:

CURRENT: v0.34.07

OLDER: v0.31.25, v0.28.181.40d,v0.23.130.23a

Why would you be mistaken about which version you like the most?

I suppose one might be simply unable to make up one's mind.

I prefer the newest version, but 40d is a close runner up - for the sole reason that it has a comprehensive dinosaur mod.

34.07 for modding.

Dinosaurs are perfect for my current modding project :V

but then I'd have to make graphics for my current modding project...

.31, but that's just for nostalgia really. Completely biased, and .34 is just awesome.

Version 1.0? How have you managed to get your hands on a version from the future! He's a witch! Burn him! (But only after recovering the version to save Toady 40 years of work or so :P)

I dunno, I was a huge fan of build 23-27 [pre-3d] since it was the first time we were allowed to mod the raws to make any civilization/creature playable in fortress mode. That's when I started my first Minotaur Hermit Fortress.

Getting that first anvil was a pain in the ass, though. Totally not something I miss from those versions. I crushed one too many anvils in accidental collapses in my first forts. Thank you for making 7x7 rooms safe, Toady.

What an odd question. Why say anything but the current version, as it's the most updated? I suppose if you absolutely must play with a mod specific to an old version and are unwilling to just update it, then I suppose. Unless you meant which release you have the most fond memories of.

Well, I'm just thinking of the version I spent the most time on myself, and that was before 3d rolled around for a couple years. That version of the game was what I started with, so I hold it more near and dear than current iterations. That's nostalgia for you :p Even with predictable [dig past river- collect flux- find iron- bridge magma] mountains and overpowered Elephants, the old versions were quite fun for me for years.

I've definitely spent the most time in .31.25, but I'm sure I'd like .34.x even more.  I just don't want to give up my current forts just yet for vampires, werecritters, zombies and a still slightly broken clothing system.

So I'd say .31.x for now.  Sure to change to .34.x when I get a chance to really play in it.
