Giant war hamsters. Not the most effective war creature but worth it for the shock value, and the potential that your enemies might either laugh or squee themselves to death at the site of Fluffy, War Hamster of the Apocalypse.

Dire capybaras would make me close the game and go weep in the corner.

i reckon badgers would make great war animals.  a badger caused my first casualty in my current fort!

goblins will show up riding sponges... which wil die unless they reach water soon enough. Immovable, oh.

I remember a human siege where the leader was riding on a giant snail. He didn't get that far thankfully.

I prefer dogs because of how easy they are to obtain and train. My military does the main fighting.

I've experimented with the giant cats before (jaguars, lions, etc.) and they were relatively effective, but still unarmored--a goblin siege can get through them with ease, even though they're slowed down.
