so this is a thing https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1027299776/witchmarsh

co-op sidescroller/rpg set in the 20'ies, and the graphics are a delight
it hasn't "gone right" yet but looks promising, and i didn't feel like making a thread for it

An amazing new idea for a phone. Takes mobile devices in a direction that drastically improves the platform. This one's worth keeping an eye on.
TBH it's sort of unfair to bash this one. It's a good idea for people who want to be less reliant on their smartphones.

Draw a cardgame with your friends featuring exploding kittens, ask for $10,000, get $4,200,000 with 22 days to go.

TBH, it probably helps that the dude who makes a popular webcomic is behind it :P

And by "popular" we mean "raised $220,000 for Cancer" (1100%) promising only that a dick lawyer trying to sue him would get a photo of the money he was asking for and a drawing of his mother being ravaged by a bear.

As in, no actual rewards.

I think Thief^ is asking "If the books are so good, shouldn't the author have earned enough money on the previous two books to fund the third one without crowdsourcing?".

I'm kinda in the same boat.
I realize this is an old question, but no. Never. There are like 100 authors alive who can afford to live on what they make from a single book. The rest of the pool of authors either have to have day jobs (slows down the production of books by an incredible amount), or pump out an enormous quantity of works so that they can sit just at the poverty line while they work. If you're taking the publisher out of the equation then there isn't even an advance which is what enables several authors to have the time to dedicate to writing and revision in the first place. Add to that the fact that they have to market the entire product themselves which is very expensive in time and effort.

That said, she asked for a remarkably small amount of money.

Not to mention, still needing to have people pay money for it.  It's not like we magically get the third book for free just because the author made a bajillion dollars on the first two...

Beehives haven't changed in two hundred years.  It's about time to change that.  Honey on Tap.  Campaign started yesterday and they've already hit $300,000 $580,000 of a $70,000 goal (yeah, that number went up from when I started this post).

It operates by using a mechanism that causes the cells to break up into channels for the honey to flow down into, reducing the work for the beekeeper and stress on the bees.  The bees fill the cells with honey and cap it off with wax, when the tap is cranked, it cracks the wax the bees put there, allowing them to clear it away and refill them.  I created this gif from a couple frames of their video showing the operation:

Also hadn't expected to post a campaign in both threads today.

Not that that isn't a clever idea, but what about any larvae that are in those cells? Wouldn't they be killed?

The brood chamber is separate from the honey chamber.  By which I mean: bees don't put food and babies in the same room. :P

Will we still have bees long enough to make use of that?

One would hope.
