It makes me happy to see that. I don't consume all that much honey myself, but I imagine it'll be a massive boon for beekeepers.

Indeed.  Reminds me of when bees were under discussion/new to Dwarf Fortress that I did a little research into beekeeping and what kinds of "technology" exists for them and was surprised that there were really only two hive types: the pot-kind like in DF that requires the destruction of the hive to harvest the honey (which is why you need to split the hive first) and the box kind invented in the 1700 and 1800s.  The rest of the tech is pretty much just "better suits" and "better smokers" or the ancillary things to process the honey.

Jesus fuck, it's already at 1.3 million USD. People love their bees.

EDIT: I refreshed the page and it jumped up 10000. Holy shit.

Yeah.  And you know who's buying all those kits?  Professional bee keepers.

Depends on where the bulk of the cost is. I don't really see commercial honey manufacturing passing all that many savings on to the consumer. The stuff still has to be processed (I imagine big producers won't just ship the honey straight from the hive), packaged and distributed.

But artisan honey I imagine might get a bit cheaper because of this.

Sounds about like what I'd guess.

Also, seems like they've added some new reward tiers with varying options, seeing as all their original ones sold out in like an hour.  The 230, 280, 290, 400, 410, and 460 levels are all new since I looked at it last night.  Some are look geared towards individuals wanting to get into beekeeping as well, offering a few frames and a box (all you need is your own bees and brood box).

...honey bees rarely string, right?

Pretty sure it tears out their guts if they do. And yeah, they very seldom sting.

I'll put it to you this way.

I've never been stung by a bee... I've pet bees, I've swatted them, I've hung around them but I've never been stung.

I've been stung by wasps... a LOT!

I've only ever been stung by a bee... that I accidentally stepped on.

That beehive thing is the most impressive jackpot of an invention I've ever seen.

Anyway, something less impressive, but perhaps even more mouth-watering:
