When Kickstarter Goes Right
« on: April 30, 2012, 11:06:23 am »

Since we have the opposing thread, it seems appropriate to post this one. I frequently see interesting Kickstarter projects that I'd like to post about, but I generally dislike creating new topics for them unless I'm really excited. Likewise, it seems inappropriate to post in the 'Kickstarter Gone Wrong' thread about these.

Saw this one today, and thought it should be shared:

Legends of Eisenwald, a gothic turn-based strategy/RPG. Looks pretty interesting. I'm considering donating to this one.

The graphics sure are nice on that one.  I'm not sure the combat bits appeal to me though.  It looks kind of small and confined, and I'd be worried that means the battles won't really consist of much more than taking turns whacking each other over the head.

Looks nice, yes. But I agree that the combat area looks a bit cramped. Not much room for doing anything interesting with terrain from the combat shots they showed. That part if a bit disappointing.

Perhaps, but the campaign editor is promising. If it's good, it will allow for custom maps. Large maps with many participants, perhaps?

I parrot Nenjin's sentiments. That looks very nicely done.

Digging's a lot like surgery, see -- you grab the sharp thing and then drive the sharp end of the sharp thing in as hard as you can and then stuff goes flying and then stuff falls out and then there's a big hole and you're done. I kinda wish there was more screaming, but rocks don't hurt so I guess it can't be helped.

A Kickstarter Cthulhu Knitted Ski Mask.

Not groundbreaking or anything, but pretty awesome.

I'm definitely tempted to contribute. Maybe if I get a confirmation about this job within 19 days.

I was interested in Storybricks slightly before they announced their kickstarter - and then they revealed their character design is being done by animation legend Don Bluth and his protege Gary Goldman, with Richard Bartle and Chris Avellone consulting among others. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/storybricks/storybricks-the-mmorpg-storytelling-toolset

Until this came up I was under the impression that Bluth was actually dead for some reason.

What does the OP-linked project do? It seems to be like RPG Maker, in 3D, except I haven't seen any hints of actual 'mechanics'... Is it just a 3D, interactive visual novel making program? o_o

Also, ptw.

Order of the Stick. Paying out - in progress. Good progress too. But I don't think this one counts...

Wait, what stone game?  Because there used to be an online game called The Stone and it was amazing.

Also, I assumed Don Bluth was dead too.  Now I feel like a horrible, mean bastard for that.  Oh well.  The other greats from his generation of animation have largely bit it...
