Cave Crocodile Capture
« on: April 29, 2012, 12:57:31 pm »

There's a cave croc in the underground lake, and I've tried the caged alley+tied up dog+ door thing and it doesn't work. The question is, how do you capture cave crocs/giant olms in the lake?

Well, you could drain the lake, but that's likely to be more trouble than it's worth, and really only useful for trapping exclusively aquatic creatures.

Most of the time it'll wander into your traps eventually. It just takes a while. The more traps you have out, the more chances you have.

Once you have one, of course, the random number generator will ensure you never, ever see another of the opposite gender. No baby crocs for you! :P (Unless you get lucky, in which case I shall be very envious, because I have been waiting for a male for about fifteen years now.)

Nope. If you do they're still hostile, still a bit buggy.

They're still worthwhile if you need a male for breeding though.  I'm not sure if anyone ever settled if offspring of an invader mother are tameable.

I guess u could use a captured male for breeding, if released from its cage (somewhere safe)- the female would most likely destroy the nestbox...

I'm currently testing to see if my invader jabberers will be able to fertilize the eggs of my wild-caught female jabberer.  Of course, even if I am successful, it could be possible that a random male jabberer walked through the caverns and did it, and not the invader ones.

Sadly olms do not lay eggs without modding.  I always add that, common domestic, wagon puller, and trainable to giant olms, since they are the cutest underground creature.  I look forward to the day I can send my dwarven cavalry (olmalry?) galumphing into battle riding giant olms.
