Thanks :) just figured it'd make more sense for the majority of a aqua world to be flooded. Also I like that idea since to gain more space underwater I'd either have to destroy the reefs or move to another water world.

What are the bonuses?
Depends on the job. In general it a +1 to the sites production, but not always.

In order to do the same as an arcology, you would need to build 2 cities and 1 farm. This would require 3 space while an arcology requires 2.

\The work a bit more effecient then the other researchers. (In most cases this amounts to one turn shorter research)

Theoretically yes, but practically no. This is because one researcher works at +-50% the speed of 2 researchers.  (Research is mesured by research points behind the scenes). So adding 2 genmodified has a benefit, but it won't cut 2 turns. (It will make research faster though).
