More time = more fun.

But I'm curious, what would redownloading accomplish?

New syndroms, new beasts, new mists, that kind of thing.

... You do know you can generate more than one world... Right? :p

Are you saying that when I downloaded I got, let's call it fun set A and that when you downloaded it you got fun set B.

And by redownloading the game one might change the fun set they got when first downloading?

Really?

Oh, and this:

Actually, no, I don't think so. Sorry, I realized I was wrong and forgot to edit.

I keep a backup copy for copy-paste purposes, as I tend to mod here and there when I'm not playing vanilla. Therefore I only download once. Redownloading and extracting to play vanilla when you've been playing vanilla would accomplish absolutely nothing. Extracting from the compressed file doesn't change the contents, and nor does running DF for the first time, really.

If you feel like you're lacking Fun, consider these options:
-Wait about 75 years or so. Vampires aren't instant.
-Make sure the world is very large. The larger it is, the more civilizations that will besiege/trade with you.
-Install mods. Mods like Fortress Defense, Masterwork, Genesis, LFR, etc. don't change the basic concepts of DF and can help enrich your experience. Some mods also help reduce clutter, ensuring more FPS. The mods mentioned have more hostile civilizations for your Fun-enrichment.

Oh I know that. I was simply asking the OP why he thought it would help.

You are ofcourse correct if he had a modded DF. Then I'd see the point in re downloading.

(Make sure your blacksmith is legendary otherwise it's a waste)

A waste? A weapon is better than no weapon!

True, but he already has Iron weapons, and having to melt down the non-masterwork candy weapons when you get your weaponsmith legendary so he has candy to work with is just a waste.

Yes but melting down candy weapons is a literal waste. You lose some of the lovely stuff.

I thought that DF perhaps was broke, and that I would need to redownload. Guess I'm just uninformed about how long time until fun starts occuring.

I'm on a quite bad computer ATM though, it can barely generate a small world on 125 years with very low civilizations. Any way someone could gen me a larger world with more civs and longer gentime?
Thanks.

Check here.  Explore other things at the file deopt, too- there are whole releases with pre-installed graphics and mods, as well as utilities.

Hmph, you're ungrateful! You have plenty of time to set up overly complex and dwarfy trap systems and military training. Get to it! I want to see Rube Goldberg crying like a little girl!

The problem with !!Fun!! is that when it does occur, it's usually once you've got a decent fortress and are perhaps slightly proud of it, especially given that without cheating in some way or getting really lucky with migrants, it takes forever to do anything.

It took me a week to get a zombie apocalypse, which was around 6 hours cumulative gametime, but if you want faster fun just let dwarves go insane, remove their drink, or capture some monsters and let them loose in your dining halls.

Making your own fun can be even more entertaining than random fun at times, particularly since you can generally control it to not quite obliterate your fortress.

Embark on terrifying biome.
Confirm the pressence of undead alligators in the river.
Bring horses with you.
Butcher them.
Beg Armok for mercy after saying you have a lack of fun, while your dwarves are getting killed by undead horse hair.
