Is it me...or are Scimitars overpowered?
« on: April 28, 2012, 11:28:19 pm »

So I genned a world and decided to start as a Human Swordsman. I was assigned a Scimitar by the RNG and sent out to beat the shit out of bandits.

I sure did the latter.

I have no idea why, but this thing was OBLITERATING enemies. I don't even know how to describe it--9 times out of 10, I dismembered whatever part I was attacking. I was cutting through bandits like they were made out of wet tissue paper. I actually took on a force of about 20+ and killed about 19 of them with taking a single hit, without a single companion (I never use companions). It felt like I was playing 40d (where becoming a broken god was insanely easy). I only stopped when I got hit in the arm and lost my shield (I had already killed my quest target, they were like my 3rd kill at that camp).

So are scimitars broken, or are human bandits that sucky?

So...what exactly just happened?

Scimitars are completely identical to short swords in every respect. Swords are generally decent in this release, although whips and picks also have their own merits. Bandit strength is partially a factor of world age; an old world will generally be more likely to have powerful, experienced bandits.

This was a 240-year-old world, with 3 times the number of Titans and with Titan attacks vastly more frequent. These bandits weren't hurting for EXP

240 years is very short.

Not tor humans. Unlike beings that live forever they can't just keep racking up kills and experience, they only have their lifetime to do it. After a full-length life amount of time has passed, they won't be more skilled just because of time passing, there'll just be more skilled people (since the population is rising).

Scimitars are OP, because they kill people and very good at what scimitars meant to be doing.

Very funny, but I've never seen a sword kill people this easily before.

scimitar= a flat curved blade meant for slicing stuff off so YEA your gunna cut some stuff off i.e mainly if your a demigod theres nothing to not cut off lol and some people are going to bring up axes meant for chopping stuff up no an axe is meant to hack not slice hacking is like a chop
EDIT: also if you dont cut something off you sever thier motor nerves like no tomorrow

Scimitars are completely identical to short swords in every respect.

I was gonna say they weren't, but it seems they were changed.

They used to have a higher slashing damage, as they have a bigger blade which made them my preferred weapon to use in Adventure mode as slashing attacks seem to have a greater chance of cutting of limbs (which makes sense).

"Damage" hasn't been around since 40d >_>

This was most likely the result of a high-ish sword skill and good luck. You would likely have done the same with any sword.

I mean the velocity or whatever it's called now. In DF2010, Scimitars had 30000 or 40000 Slash. Now in 2012, they are exactly the same as Short Swords (20000).
