So, I'm playing Masterwork DF, and I'm looking for a vampire wood savant. It's a relatively small town, so I was thinking it should be easy. I searched pretty much everywhere that there possibly could be a vampire, but I found nothing. I checked everyone at the market, everyone in their houses, and everyone in the shops, but still nothing. I checked the castle and the catacombs, and still I was vampire-less. Where else could I possibly look?

Talk to the people.

They will give you directions.

Follow those directions house by house, until they lead you to a house where all that is said is "confront x."

Then, talk to all until you find the vampire that matches the name.

Accuse.

And watch the entire house begin to savagely mob the vampire.

If you don't know how to ask then you probably aren't good enough to fight a vampire.

Unless it's a cult leader, they're easy to kill. Considering the mob carries one of the game's lightsabre weapons.

Even if it's a cult leader, they're easy to kill. They just come attached with a mob of their own.

I know, but what option is it? Service just makes them ask me to kill bandits, etc.
And I've played adventure mode quite a bit, so I know what I'm doing. For the most part.

For clues, when asking the ones who gave you the task. Asking how you can serve a vampire will not result in the vampire comically asking you to kill itself, but will instead direct you on another quest. So you may have already talked to the vampire, and calmly walked away not realizing that it was the one you were meant to kill.
Sometimes, they ask you to kill another vampire.
