Eh, this is a couple weeks old, and the general consensus is that it's just a smokescreen EA threw up after winning the coveted golden poo.  There are two articles written on the subject by Forbes journalist Erik Kain here and here.

EA also has a record of trying to create fake controversy as an advertising mechanism, most notably when they hired people to pretend to protest Dante's Inferno.  I never got why the stereotype of gamers as fat, basement-dwelling homophobes continues to be perpetuated.  From what I've seen, gamers tend to be young and lean either to the left or towards libertarianism, with very little overlap with the fundamentalist groups that make up the core of the anti-gay rights voting bloc.

Perhaps perpetuating these stereotypes allows publishers and "game journalists" (read: advertisers) to dehumanize their customers, allowing them to justify how they treat them.

Well technically only 1 out of 3, if you go by fan reviews none of their recent games have gotten above a 5/10.

If you trust actual reviewers you are a fool, they have all been bought and paid for long ago.

Eh, Fan "reviews" on the internet are more often then not overly biased raging trolls on sites like Reddit or Tumblr who think they know what the hell they are talking about when they actually don't.

Edit: And also if your trusting the opinions of random people on the internet then I think you have a bigger problem.

To be fair, we need to look at the issue from their point of view.

It is a known fact to them, that homosexuals cause hurricanes. Hurricanes are bad. Therefore homosexuality is bad. Bad is evil. Homosexuals are evil. Homosexuality is a choice, therefore we ought to fight the liberal homosexual propaganda, trying to make all our children evil. Hitler was evil. EA is evil.

I think we can all agree Kotaku and IGN are never to be completely trusted. Ever.

I may be going a little Devil's Advocate here, but I wouldn't even say most. But I don't try to listen to reviews half the time from anyone half the time, because if I want to see what a game is like, I would buy it for myself. And I would recommend the same to you. Because I know people who Really liked some of the more recent games from Bioshock. I wouldn't know what I may think of them, because I haven't bought them at all.

But on topic, I personally think its ironic that EA is getting voted "Worst company ever" while at the same time as this.

If this was not about publicity, I would suspect that the hate mail would have simply been ignored. If EA is staffed by insecure adolescents, then perhaps they need support, but, if we may presume that they are adults that know how to delete emails, I see no reason for a petition, and I see no reason anyone should need to publicly ‘stand behind’ EA, unless they mean to do so for their own aggrandizement.

FACT: The terms used are too ambiguous to make this assertion. “Bioware sucks,” and “The last several games ... have been utter crap...” could be interpreted several ways. They could mean that Lord Dullard does not like their games, or they could mean that Bioware consistently fails to produce games pleasing to the general public, or something else.

I have never understood the relevance ‘choice’ argument. It does not appear to matter whether homosexuals have—by some sorcery, I presume—chosen their sexual appetites or not.
