Yes, I've built on one when playing as Rjakh

Hahaha I KNEW he looked familiar, I just haven't play enough MoM to remember the portrait.

Edit: Oh, it appears holy sites tend to be in less populated, more monster infested areas of the map guarded additionally by tough monsters. Also, the alternate world I'm trying (and failing miserably) to gain a foothold in seems to have more than the main map.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Yeah, the other worlds tend to be swarming with monsters, it's very irritating. I did eventually manage to clear out this one world called "Noom" that was full of dragons. There were some dragon eggs there, and some golden dragon eggs too, which let me make my own dragons...

Of course by that point they were pretty weak compared to my elven sharpshooters. In fact, by the time I actually managed to clear that world out, I'd already built up the mana and finished researching the win instantly spell. The fact that the win instantly spell requires nothing except a bunch of mana and research kinda breaks the game. It just seems to turn the game into a race to get to that spell.

Spell of Mastery. Banishes all enemy wizards from the game.

At first, I thought this looked like Age of Wonders, then I realized it was just a Civ5 mod, and I got to thinking "why not just play Fall from Heaven?". I haven't really come up with a good answer...

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

I realized it was just a Civ5 mod

Are you joking? Or... What?

Also I have found a answer to that (at least to me). FFH2 is not a endless source of entertainment. I have been playing Civ games for almost ten years now and I need something new, even if it is cruder.

so i've played a bit more...the ai is reletivly smart...at least on nightmare...maybe its because of the extra units it gets(there is no normal way 5 cities can sustain 10 ships, 8 mages and 10 infantry), but unlike my first play, i was getting crushed on assaults and felt overextended everywhere due to neutral mobs pounding on my flanks, which i found is something the ai tries its best not to do...it waits till it has enough forces to commit to an attack while still being able to defend its cities, attacked then got counter attacked but held the line and they retreated then my 2nd assault attempt i didn't get so luckey as i didn't notice they had signed peace with another nation which is why they didn't commit more forces...which lead them to sending enough forces that i didn't have forces to fight off a quest mob that ran strait at my capital and happened to have vampire ability so it was game over for that game...

It really is just a mod for Civ5. I mean seriously... its the Civ 5 engine and mechanics altered for a fantasy game.

I wish this game was more difficult.

The first time I played through, I did the usual civ thing and set the largest world possible against the most enemies. It was incredibly boring, as I ended up researching every single spell in the entire game before anyone even bothered to declare war on each other since the map was so huge. I think I had nearly 40 cities before I even finished exploring my one continent, to say nothing of all the others I didn't even see.

So I decided to try something else and went with a medium world with just 4 enemies, but taking into consideration of the normal difficulty chosen previously, I just went straight up highest difficulty level. It wasn't even remotely a challenge. =| It's not so much bragging as it is taking advantage of an almost nonexistant AI. For one, for some reason the AI adore declaring war on every single one of their neighbours except you. I don't know if that's a bug or not. Another is the AI's incapability when it comes to expanding. It sure likes to take its time getting new cities considering there's literally no downside whatsoever to spamming cities everywhere. Thirdly, the AI loves to just straight up donate money to you for paltry returns. Once you get an alliance with people, almost every single turn they'll spam you with really dumb trade requests. Things like giving you 100 gold for 14 mana... The battle AI was pretty good though, and it synergized very well with its use of magic. Just the strategic part was completely inept.

Mrm.... the game is entertaining... but some mechanics definitely need to be changed and the AI could use a lot more work.

Spell of Mastery. Banishes all enemy wizards from the game.
In the case of MoM it required a lot more research, and it was harder to get the mana too.

FFH had a better way of handling it, you needed to gather together a whole bunch of different kinds of mana, and then build the four different magic towers, then build the tower of mastery. Trouble was that as soon as you started building the tower of mastery everybody would declare war on you. Which made things rather tricky.

It would have been nice if there were four or more towers of wizardry that you had to find, rebuild, and protect while you cast the spell, that would have made things more interesting.

I think Paradox team has found a good solution by picking up Civ5 engine and interface. When they try to make their own, it takes YEARS to finish off bugs, bad design problems and other stuff. So they could focus on what they like: content. Elemental had all the time sunk into the engine, so almost no lore/content after the too early release.

Oh it had plenty of Lore. It was just all terrible, and was located primarily the Brad Wardell's Fiction novels that bear the same name as the game.

But yes, they spent a lot of time building the engine. And as a result, they didn't spend nearly enough time thinking or working on gameplay mechanics, or even generally just polishing the non-engine parts of the game.

Although it looks a lot like it at first, I highly doubt that the game is build on the Civ 5 engine. It runs far too smoothly. For example, I've never had to wait 5-10 seconds after moving a unit just to do another action. Not to mention turns process much more quickly than I'm used to in Civ 5.

I hope I'm right; with any luck multiplayer will be much better implemented than in Civ 5.

EDIT: A little googling tells me it's using the engine they used in their earlier game, Elven Legacy.
