Gremlins on embark.
« on: April 26, 2012, 09:53:07 pm »

This is my first time playing after the necromancer update, so I might be a bit behind.

However, upon embark, I was offered Gremlins as pets. 1 point each. Naturally, I took 15. Now I have a bunch of them running around.

They're getting thirsty though. How do I get them to drink?

Also it's raining repellant mucus. I hope it's not more fun than I can handle.

They dont do anything but die.

They begin nobles.

Your civ conquered a gremlin tribe most likely.

With the animal training overhaul, sometimes civs will start out having trained certain creatures to the point of "domestication," allowing them to be bought on embark. Gremlins are [PET_EXOTIC], so I suppose that's possible, if fairly rare -  nice find!

As for stopping them of all dying of thirst, you'll have to do a bit of light modding. Go into your save file's raws and add [NO_DRINK] to the gremlin's creature file.

EDIT: I don't think there are gremlin tribes unless you're using a mod (Masterwork does have them, I think).

Designate a water source zone or build a well and they'll drink out of it.

Gremlins are fun. They drink and eat if you do not pasture them. They breed, but the childs always die of thirst.

Cage them as life bait somewhere far away and build a traps galore path to them. That's all they're good for.

I thought they were into obsessive lever pulling. Announcement spam aside, if they still do that when tame and have a means to eat/drink or are modded, they could be useful for repeated activation of something lever activated.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.
