An Interesting Embark
« on: April 26, 2012, 03:24:30 pm »

Not sure how common this is, but I thought it might be interesting to some on here....

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

that's weird.... everyone on one tiny piece of land.....

and a few levels down.......

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

yes, that's a volcano shaped hole in the lake  :o

as soon as you unpause from embark, the lake caps the volcano with obsidian. I can imagine the dwarfs faces as the whole place erupts in steam. I think I'm going to like it here.

I think the game tried to put your wagon and dwarfs close to the center of the map but not inside the volcano or in water (thankfully) so the closed to the center spot was that peak of a mountain. Did you mess with some parameters in advanced world gen to get a volcano in a lake?

Well, all you need to do now is build on the layer of obsidian and make yourself a self-heated dwarf spa thing.

I think that this is one of those map feature corruptions, but didnt toady fix them?
Give us the save, so we can embark on a diffrent site and find out if its a feature corruption.

Or give us the seed, so we can see if it's the same for us ;)

I'll get the seed and parameters at some stage this weekend, I'm a bit busy tonight.

This embark is definitely something different to anything I've ever genned before, I've got marble mixed in with obsidian, and a hole in the cavers that leads direct to the magma sea.

If it's a bug..... I vote we keep it in ;)

If you poke around a little bit, you can find an old embark profile that has a woody swamp right next to a lake with a volcano in it.

I've used it before, only all the dang flux is aquifer stone. D:

OK, hopefully I've got this lot right, this is the first time I've posted a world.

you may want to change the number of embark points, I go with a lot, because I tend to concentrate on building, rather than surviving ;)

It does reproduce.  I was able to embark with a 5x5 and pick up a high plateau to the south which can be reached by embarking with that biome selected.  There are no plump helmets available on embark.  ???  Not sure yet whether they completely don't exist in this world.  It's rather novel for me to embark with so many points.  I opted to spend some of them on seven steel picks instead of seven copper picks, and a full seven copper battle axes.  Clearing trees goes really quickly with seven wood-cutters!   :D  My first embark was on the default spire.  My second attempt is on the plateau and I am redoing that one from the first spring because I didn't like how I handled the edge of the map on the plateau.  It was only the first summer, though, so not much was lost.   :)

You may be able to change embark points without changing the world that is generated. I don't know of any effects of that particular token except after world gen has finished, so it's possible that changing it will have no effect other then making it so you can start with a different amount of stuff.

Embark points and number of megabeasts are the only settings I've tried that didn't change the world on me.

Didn't really play around that much, though, lol.
