I'll build weapons and armors after I'm done with this wall, it's to early for sieges to show up anyway.

Next frame: Siege of a few dozen undead.

Uh oh.

If you embark with 2 well armed axedwarves and a couple of dogs you'll buy enough time to dig in.
I haven't worked out what the next step is, but it seems to require atom smashers.
And live bait.

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

Step One: Forget to built overworld defenses to keep inquiring ambushers away from the fortress proper, and have a skeleton crew military at the moment after a rather Fun titan melted a couple.
Step Two: Most of the population is either involved in parties or otherwise in their workspaces.
Step Three: Discover a goblin ambush in my dining hall far beneath the earth.
Step Four: Their friends get found by a random surface farmer in the farming area.
Step Five: Uh-Oh.

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.

Generated a nice world with big rivers, only to embark on top of one of those wide rivers with cliffs on sides, while it was frozen. On the very first day the ice melted. Fun times. :)

That horrible, gut-sinking moment when you realize that you've walled off the forgotten beasts in the caverns - except for that one little corner you missed that they just slipped through on their way to your forges.

I had this vampire killed and his blood went into the main well. Closed it off, but a squad drank from it. Moved their barracks into this square room that was engraved. Walled them in, save for this raised bridge. Gremlin/imps or those little bastards that pull levers pull the lever.. Nothing came out.

When you forgot to lock the traders out of the fortress during a siege.

Also, I had one right now noticing a Urist McPenguin avatar on Loud Whispers.

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.
