(The race is only two laps?)

Yep, mostly since it's a long course. I'm trying to keep everything 12-15 turns to keep everything moving along nicely, so short courses get many laps and long courses get only 2.

Ahh well, this final stretch shall be most intriguing.))

(Hey guys, I'm looking at how this is lining up, and it looks like that the next race(which I was likely to be in) will be conflicting with a two week camping trip to Philmont with my scout troop. So if anyone wants to switch slots, they can let me know so we can trade.)

Hey Monk, here's a question for you.  Assuming the next second race follows the Invitational rules (highest fame races), it'll be almost a rematch of this race... except that the winner of whatever the next race will displace either Luigi or Falcon at 2 versus 1.  In this rare circumstance (assuming no fame-changing shenanigans), would a racer indeed get to race twice in a row?

Rainbow Road- Turn Thirteen

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th

Action Phase

Finish line is in sight.  Only one more section to go... but Zelda was coming up fast behind...

Go RIGHT.  Drop that banana and prepare to RAM anyone trying to steal a victory.

Crank heads to the right, strategically dropping his banana and preparing to RAM Zelda away from his Kart!

Aggressive driving, follow that bastard if it's possible to ram him, if not, onto the other path instead!

Zelda welcomes Crank's invited ram- if she can catch up, that is! [4] She gains ONE Momentum and receives a -1 Penalty to Hazard checks as she futilely attempts to close the gap!

Well, the top two slots are effectively out of my reach now. I can still make the podium though, I simply need to avoid mistakes.

Powerslide through, and take the left path in case I can pull ahead.

Luigi is dismayed as he realizes that he can't catch up to Crank or Zelda in time! Determined to get some reward, he goes into a Powerslide, [5]+1 gaining TWO Momentum as his Nitrous ignites, sending him blazing forward!

((Derp, sorry :P I should really stop submitting actions when I'm about to fall asleep))

Mr. L's eye twitched as he saw the green back of the unmasked impostor speeding away from him.  No... Not today...

What else? Drive Aggressively!

The Mysterious Mr. L is having none of it, pressing forward as Luigi slides away [5]+1 and gaining THREE Momentum as he pushes his Kart to the limit!

Rotten luck may have plagued him this race, but Captain Falcon wasn't about to give up. First place may not be possible, but he could still place on the podium.

Aggressive Driving

Captain Falcon follows closely, determined to place as highly as possible! [4]+1 He gains TWO Momentum as he struggles to keep pace with the Mysterious Mr. L!

(I swear, the rng doesn't just hate me right now, its got some sick sadistic pleasure in my misery.) DB sighed as he eased his foot slightly off the gas. Dreams of champagne and beautiful women where becoming just that, dreams. "Well, better at least put in a little effort so my loss of contract isn't completely justified." he mumbled. DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY

Dry Bones accelerates into the final stretch, [4]+1 gaining TWO Momentum as he keeps pace with Captain Falcon!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Crank drops his banana as he goes right, ready to ram!

Princess Zelda follows Crank right, [6]-1 adroitly dodging the banana but still a bit too far behind Crank to try and pass!

Luigi is blazing up the BLUE curve, and attempts to Pull Ahead! [4] HE SUCCEEDS, ripping ahead and speeding down the left PURPLE lane, too late to make a charge!

The Mysterious Mr. L suddenly finds himself in position to Pull Ahead himself, [3] but can't seal the deal! He watches helplessly as Luigi speeds away!

Captain Falcon is just behind MML, but lacks the Momentum to pass!

Dry Bones is in no position to pass Captain Falcon!

Cleanup Phase

Crank crosses the finish line in FIRST PLACE, becoming CHAMPION OF THE STAR CUP! He is now the winningest racer in the multiverse!

Princess Zelda crosses the finish line just after Crank, taking SECOND PLACE, securing a lucrative payout for her high finish!

Luigi finishes in THIRD PLACE, claiming the last Coin prize of the Cup!

The Mysterious Mr. L is just racing for good seeding in next Season's races, and heads for the Item Boxes, [1]+1 missing completely!

Captain Falcon takes aim at an Item Box, [1]+1-1 missing even worse than MML did!

Dry Bones hopes to not finish in last, [1]+1-1 but the GM's die is broken but follows in the wake of Captain Falcon and the Mysterious Mr. L, failing to hit an item box!

I'm actually considering a bit of a format change to give everyone a chance to race in a season, but I won't say more until the race is over (and it's not 2am)  I will say that what race you end up in will be determined before the season starts. More on that later.

DB cringed as he heard over the radio of Luigi taking third. "Why'd today have to be the day I couldn't back up my smack talk..." DB muttered, now ignoring the flashing red warning light thats been going off since the first time bananas hit the track.DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY

((Just an idea I had. It's probably not balanced, but I thought I'd at least present it.

Almost always the default action is aggressive driving, with the others coming up in unique circumstances. I was thinking there should be an action where you don't want to take the disadvantage, but at the same time want to have a chance at momentum. Sort of a middle ground.

'Standard Driving',  is a simple dice roll. On a 5 you get a +1 to momentum, and a +2 on 6 and so on. However, if you roll a 1 you don't take a momentum loss (this is up to debate, because aggressive driving, powersliding, or defensive driving wouldn't be that much more advantageous)

There would be no module that benefits or hiccups it))

I would have said keep the momentum loss but don't get the hazard penalty.

And congrats to Crank. Now to make Rainbow Road even more lethal... heh heh heh...

Crank heads to Victory Lane, does a couple donuts, then a backflip in his kart- showing off for the crowd.  That done, he nods at his fellow competitors.

"Well done, you two.  Zelda, you gave me a scare back there.  Luigi, I enjoyed the rematch!  Let's all have some of that champagne, what say?"

Bask in the glow of victory

Orb, it seems to me that the Ram action is the closest there is to a non-action.  For a leader who doesn't want to risk the -1 that aggressive driving gives (or doesn't need the momentum) in a non-powerslide bonus section, that's pretty much the only action available if they want a chance to pull ahead.  Your proposed action seems a bit too close to aggressive driving- perhaps a simple racing check with +1 momentum at 6 and nothing otherwise, with no risk of a hiccup if somehow a 0 is rolled?  (Ink, mostly)

"Well, that was a good race, Crank. Nookington's lucky to have you with that performance. Your driving was equally impressive, Zelda.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with my sponsor and some kart damage to fix. Until next time."

And no sponsor gained anything from second place :P

And hey, now that some of us have money, I'm expecting shenanigans.
