Oomph was in the crowd today, as well-seated with a few other high rollers in a specialized Jumbo sized Lakitu-domed cloud, the optimal (and most expensive) way to enjoy the Rainbow Road from above. The ship itself often smoothly oriented itself to give the guests the best view of the race.

As usual, the Koopa was eating snacks-the Mousers of nearby celestial Cheeseland (some people called it the 'moon') made excellent fried food, after all, and had been providing the refreshments and food for the Rainbow Road circuit since it's inception.

Oomph was cheering and hollering between mouthfuls, of course.

"Go Falcon man! Win race for Great Justice!"

Once more the small robed figure squirmed in his seat, undisturbed by all the noise around him. His spot wasn't good, but he had the advantage of having magic to help him watch the race as if he had picked the best seat in the house.
"I still wonder why I am here." He remarks, a new one-liter bottle of NotOvomaltine milk-shake in his hand.

Rainbow Road- Turn Two

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th

Action Phase

Crank laughed with glee.  Now this was more like it!  Keep this up and he'd be ahead of the pack in no time flat!  Now to take this stretch right...

Powerslide!

Crank's Kart hops over the edge of the drop, sliding down the steep road! [4] The Gloomba quickly builds a charge in his engine, releasing it just as he skids to the edge of the road! He receives a +1 bonus to Pass attempts!

Well, this is a notably better start than last time. Let's see if I can't improve on the finish as well.

Activate powerslide!

Luigi follows Crank's lead, [5] holding it a second longer for another precious bit of boost! The Nitrous in his engine flares from the exhaust, blasting him forward with ONE Momentum and a +1 bonus to Pass attempts! Though the burst brings him within spitting distance of Crank's bumper, the Poltergust 4000 doesn't quite have the Momentum to make a move!

Finally getting his bearings as he felt his tank take off, he couldn't help but snicker as he almost shoved Zelda off the road. "Don't worry princess!" Db yelled back at her. "When I'm done with this race, I'll make sure you're where your mouth is. IN THE GUTTER!!" Db laughed to himself as he returned his sights on Luigi, watching him closely as he kept his foot on the gas. DRIVE AGGRESSIVELY. "Hey spaghetti breath! Move aside and maybe I'll spare you, we both know how you got here was a fluke. You had the home course advantage and you still came in 2nd!" Letting loose another laugh as he taunted his fellow racer hoping to demoralize him.

Dry Bones presses his Kart straight downhill, pedal to the metal and pulling for every scrap of speed he can muster! [4] He keeps his cool as his Kart approaches an uncomfortably vertical angle, gaining ONE Momentum while taking a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks as he presses onward!

Aggressive driving, aiming for a dash panel and an item box!

Zelda closely follows Dry Bones, matching his downward plunge through the middle of the road! [6] The Princess masterfully measures her throttle, keeping her Kart in full contact with the road as she hurtles herself downhill, gaining THREE Momentum and taking a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks!

Drive Aggresively, aim for the Item Box and Dash Panel

The Mysterious Mr. L stays close behind the Princess, [3] but when his stomach climbs up his throat he lets up on the gas for an instant, failing to gain on the leaders; fortunately, his Great Handling means his Kart stays responsive even in adverse conditions like this, and so he takes no penalties to Hazard checks.

Captain falcon smacked his head as the Blue Falcon sputtered from the starting line, everyone else speeding ahead. Not a good way to start a race. But it he had plenty of time to get back in

Aggressive Driving!

Captain Falcon zips after the pack, [2] but as he clears the edge of the downward plunge he finds the Mysterious Mr. L decelerating in front of him! He is forced to brake as well, gaining no Momentum as his recklessness imposes a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Crank hits the Dash Panel at the bottom of the slope, gaining ONE Momentum as he rapidly levels off! The speed boost gives him an opportunity to Pull Ahead, [2] but his opponents are following too closely for a clean breakaway!

Luigi follows Crank over the Dash Panel, gaining ONE Momentum! He's breathing down Crank's neck!

Dry Bones hits the Dash Panel, gaining ONE Momentum as he stubbornly keeps pace with the leaders!

Princess Zelda flies over the Dash Panel, gaining ONE Momentum and setting her sights on Dry Bones! [1]+5vs[6]+4 The skeletal Koopa sees her coming, however, and quickly zigs and zags, preventing her from completing the pass!

The Mysterious Mr. L hits the Dash Panel for ONE Momentum, but is dismayed to find himself falling behind!

Captain Falcon takes the Dash Panel with ease, gaining ONE Momentum as he hopes for an Item Box to reverse his fortunes!

Cleanup Phase

Crank hits the gentle slope leading up toward the ORANGE loop-de-loop, taking aim at one of the many Item Boxes scattered here! [3]+2 He hits one with little effort, [2] and begins dragging a Fake Item Box behind his Kart!

Luigi follows Crank to the field of Item Boxes, [3]+2 picking up an Item Box on the other side of the track! [5]+1 He begins dragging a Bob-omb behind his Kart!

Dry Bones takes aim at the Item Boxes, [4]+2-1 picking one up [2]+2 and dragging a Green Shell behind his Kart!

Zelda [6]+2-1 effortlessly picks up an Item Box, [4]+3 adding the Mushroom that has treated her so well to her inventory!

The Mysterious Mr. L [5]+2 nails one of the remaining Item Boxes, [1]+4 receiving the villainous Blooper!

Captain Falcon [6]+2-1 nabs a spinning Item Box, [6]+5 and is rewarded with a Star!

The CEO sat impassively as the various flu kids and attendants began cheering at Luigi's good start. He knew that all it would take was one green shell or a dose of blooper ink for their star racer to fall behind. Still, a little part of him couldn't help but grin maniacly inside as his racer picked up a Bob-OMB. Trash his kart Luigi, he thought.

(Actually, I think Zelda should have had 6 momentum for the pass attempt on Dry Bones, unless I'm missing something. Doesn't really matter considering the roll difference though.)
Hm, how to use this Bob-omb. Toss it ahead, or drop it behind me?

Screw it, I'll pass Crank later, there's too many items flying around here.

"Hey Dry Bones, it looks like Team Rocket will soon be blasting off again!"

Drop the Bob-omb behind me, drive defensively.

As far as I can tell I got it right? Started turn with 1, gained 3 from Drive Aggressively, gained 1 from Dash Panel = 5. I'm guessing you missed the bit where she lost Momentum end of Turn 1 (during Tiebreaking,) although if I'm missing something please do point it out as accuracy is rather important to me (for obvious reasons.)

DB couldn't help but grin as he heard Luigi's comeback. "Only thing thats gonna be blasting off is this shell when I fire it at you." he yelled as he loaded the shell into the tanks gun and aimed it at Luigi's kart. DRIVE DEFENSIVELY, FIRE SHELL AT LUIGI.

Being unable to pick up speed made that upcoming loop-de-loop look very intimidating, but the item he was getting would have to help in some way. It... was a star. Great oogly-googly, the captain had to stop himself from using it on the spot. But he wasn't going to get the most use out of it firing off now, and looking ahead it seemed a little war was about to brew. he decided to wait back a bit and see how it plays out.

WHAT!?  WHAT IS THIS!? The Mysterious Mr. L.proclaimed as Zelda inched further away.  He looked down at the now familiar sight of the blooper in his hand, I can't have that, now can I?  Let's see how you handle a little squid pro quo!

squid pro quo!

Oh god.

Crank eyeballs the kart edging closer on him.  That just wouldn't do, now would it?  He steeled himself to RAM anyone attempting to pass him out of the way!

Rainbow Road- Turn Three

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th

Action Phase

Crank eyeballs the kart edging closer on him.  That just wouldn't do, now would it?  He steeled himself to RAM anyone attempting to pass him out of the way!

"Just try it, Mr. Green!"

Crank keeps an eye on his rear-view as he approaches the loop, resovling to Ram any would-be passers off the dangerous section of track!

Drop the Bob-omb behind me, drive defensively.

"Hey Dry Bones, it looks like Team Rocket will soon be blasting off again!"

Luigi Drives Defensively, gaining a +1 bonus on Pass Checks and +1 against attacks as he drops the Bob-omb on the track before the loop! It begins flashing menacingly!

DRIVE DEFENSIVELY, FIRE SHELL AT LUIGI.

DB couldn't help but grin as he heard Luigi's comeback.

"Only thing that's gonna be blasting off is this shell when I fire it at you!"

Dry Bones drives defensively, firing his Green Shell even as he swerves to avoid the Bob-omb! [6]+1-1vs[3]+1 The expertly fired Green Shell slams into Luigi from behind, sending him flipping and losing TWO Momentum! Luigi desperately struggles to right his Kart before he tumbles off the edge of the road, [1]+1 but the Poltergust 4000 cannot find purchase, and falls into the night sky!

Use the Mushroom, RAMMING SPEED on Dry bones!

As Luigi flips off the track, Zelda seizes her moment! Activating her Mushroom, she surges ahead with TWO Momentum and prepares to ram Dry Bones! [4]+7vs[6]+4+1+2 The Koopa defends well, and Zelda can't overcome the Dry Bomber's Ramming Speed! She bounces away from the Koopa, losing ONE Momentum as she tries to complete the pass anyway! [1]+6vs[6]+4+1 She took a bad bounce, however, and can't make a move!

Fire the Blooper and Drive Aggresively!

The Mysterious Mr. L angrily hefts his Blooper as Zelda starts pulling away!

WHAT!?  WHAT IS THIS!? I can't have that, now can I?  Let's see how you handle a little squid pro quo!

So saying, MML releases THE BLOOPER! It flies up, splattering the windshields of every driver (save Luigi) with Ink, imposing a -1 Penalty to Racing, Pass and Hazard Checks! He follows up his vindictive punnery with some Aggressive Driving, [6] and in the cephalopod-related confusion he picks up THREE Momentum, rapidly closing in on the leaders!

Drive Defensively

As the bombs drop, shells fly, and ink sprays, Captain Falcon decides that discretion is the better part of valor- get through the dangerous loop, let the dust settle, then make some of his own! He drives defensively to preserve his Momentum!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Crank hits the loop-de-loop at full speed! Looking up, he sees Luigi fall into the abyss as confusion reigns, and decides this would be a great time to try and Pull Ahead! [1]-1 However, as he slams the accelerator the loose Blooper gets sucked into the intake valve, spattering his windshield with Ink and clogging the pipe! With a horrible rending squelch, the squid is forced through the engine, gumming everything up [5] and causing the Kart to Rubber Band Back, imposing a -1 Penalty to Pulling Ahead! No one has ever won with a damaged Kart- can Crank be the first?

Luigi is falling to his doom! His doooooom!

Dry Bones' glee is abruptly cut off as Luigi's Bob-omb detonates, [3]+1-1-1 and the explosion sends him flying into the air, setting his Momentum to 0! He gamely accelerates toward the loop, [4][abbr-Moderate]+1[/abbr] and manages to pick up enough speed to get through to the other side!

Zelda is right behind Dry Bones, and desperately swerves to avoid the blast radius of Luigi's Bob-omb! [4]-1 She horribly misjudges the angle due to the Ink on her windshield, however, and spins out, losing ONE Momentum! The uncontrolled skid sends her to the edge of the track, [1]+1-1 and the Princess cannot regain control! She falls into the inky blackness of space!

The Mysterious Mr. L is tearing up the track... right into the blast radius! [4] His Great Handling pays off once again, however, and he readily avoids the blast of fire! He has plenty of Momentum to make it through the loop, and bears down on Dry Bones! [2]+5vs[6]+0+1-1 despite the best efforts of the skeletal Koopa, he simply lacks the Momentum to oppose MML's headlong sprint! The Mysterious Mr. L loses ONE Momentum as he takes a commanding grasp of second place!

Captain Falcon is glad he hung back as the blast radius dissipates, revealing a pair of fallbacks and a battered Dry Bones! He readily takes the loop, and even though he drove defensively he still has more than twice the Momentum of DB, allowing a Pass Attempt! [5]+1+1-1vs[6]+0+1-1 Dry Bones manages to get in front of Captain Falcon, however, and the latter driver backs off, biding his time!

Cleanup Phase

Luigi and Princess Zelda are each rescued from their plummet by the nice folks at Lakitu Towing! They hit the track ink-free and with speed, kicking forward with THREE Momentum and racing toward the loop once more!
