OOC: I think Zelda would be grateful if you did do that Tiruin :P

Aggressive driving, aim for an item box.

There must have been something "funny" on that blue shell - the cart in front of MonkeyKong suddenly turned into a multicoloured flashy mess and shoot forward at a massive rate - OOOK? OOOK! Rubbing his eyes in disbelief, he resolved to chase it as best he could - he loved shiny things.

Draft the shiny flashy thing!

"No no no!

Not again!"

Shy Guy cringed in his seat as the blue shell loomed ever closer. Shy Guy could see it approaching no matter how he drove.

It was just like in sub-con once more, but replacing vegetables with shells.

His eye twitched at the memory.

Panic!

Looking back, there was that black thingy in the viewscreen. Vaati seemed like he was getting it good.

Shy Guy wondered if he could pull this off.

Then Ram Vaati! concede to going into defensive driving despite the creeping fact that Vaati is right behind me.

OOC: Actually there's another slightly more tricky solution to the Blue Shell-emergency stop and reverse, and let the person following you temporarily take 1st place to get hit by it.

At least, that's what I always did. :P
((I wouldn't know this as Shy Guy was one of the last to enter the audience stands.  :P))

Ram Vaati? You have just pulled ahead, I believe if you do that you'll lose all the ground you had obtained so far.

I'll stop cheering for Shy Guy. Son, you disappoint me. :I

Vaati is in fact right behind Shy guy, who failed to pull away.

However I have the impression that ramming only works forward, as it is bassed on pass actions and such.

If that doesn't work, then Defensive driving.

Because of the meta... :I

Not meta. Consider it rethinking your action due to the voices inside your head.

From the rules:

Ram Driver- Instead of trying to cleanly pass another driver, you can try to Ram them out of the way. The next time you are involved in a Pass action, you first make an opposed Pass Check modified by your respective Momentums. If you succeed, your target loses Two Momentum and that player cannot oppose you in that Pass Action (effectively ending their attempt to pass you or allowing you to freely pass them. You still lose Momentum for passing as normal.) The Rammed driver must make an immediate Racing Check to avoid spinning out, losing additional Momentum.  If you fail, only you lose One Momentum and the Pass action resolves as normal.

Note the underlined part and italicized parts- you CAN ram defensively.

Eh, take your time. You can just picture this moment as an incredibly long looped segment from speed racer or something as all the drivers wished they'd have collected 70 stars before trying to cross the endless bridge.

Shy Guy fidgeted in his seat as he made his decision, the whole place slowing down as he moved his kart to and fro.

They say that in times of danger, everything slows down so you could see what would strike you before the inevitable arises.

Shy Guy wished it was just a vegetable instead.

...reestablishing connection...

On a more serious note, it's time for Race Two Statistics!  I know, I know, way behind.   But here they are!

The winner of luckiest for this race is Mysterious Mr. L- barelyMario is about 2 hundredths of a point behind him.

The luck loser is Oomph, which fits his last-minute fall to third, I suppose.

Grimtoad picks up the largest number of rolls, mostly because I credited all the attack rolls for green shells to him- even the one he had to dodge himself.

Spoiler: Raw data (click to show/hide)

At this rate, I should have the final data for Race Three about the time the next race set begins.

Cerulean Speedway- Turn Six

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Action Phase

Then Ram Vaati! concede to going into defensive driving despite the creeping fact that Vaati is right behind me.

"No no no! Not again!"

Shy Guy begins driving defensively through the forest, hoping to beat the odds and evade the Hell Shell!

Vaati grins madly as he puts some distance between himself and the rest of the pack, closing the distance to Shy Guy at the same time.  The blue shell zips over his head and he ducks reflexively.

"Hmph.  I had hoped to take the lead, but that must wait until the poor fool in front of me is hit.  For now I shall drive defensively yet again!"

He does so, gaining a +1 bonus to Pass Checks and a +1 bonus against attacks!

Aggressive driving, aim for an item box.

Back on Nugget Bridge in RED, Zelda begins Driving Aggressively, [4]+1 gaining TWO Momentum as she expertly weaves from Dash Panel to Dash Panel!

Db quickly decides to Draft Zelda as he aims for the panels, hoping to find an opening that will rocket him ahead of her, and putting someone inbetween him and the technicolored meat bag.

Dry Bones drafts behind Zelda, looking for an opening as she zigs and zags across Nugget Bridge, [2]+4vs[3]+7 but her speed gain puts her beyond reach!

Use the Star! With its power ram everyone out my way as I Drive Aggressively

Boss Form Amadeus activates his STAR Powerup, becoming invincible and spurting ahead with ONE Momentum! He races toward the Dash Panel, [6]+1 gaining FOUR Momentum as he expertly hits each and every Panel on Nugget Bridge!

MonkeyKong reflexively fixates on the coruscating driver before him, inching closer despite the danger! [6]+2vs[5]+7 Amadeus pulls far ahead of MonkeyKong, however, thanks to his Star-fueled burst!

Quote from: Blue Shell
:D

The Blue Shell arrives at the front of the pack, circling above Shy Guy before striking downward! [6]+6vs[4]+1 As expected, the Shell is able to pinpoint his position, and makes a direct hit! Shy Guy flies into the air, losing all Momentum and items!

Behind him, Vaati swerves to avoid the blast, [4]+1 and has little difficulty given his conservative driving!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Shy Guy [3]+1+1 is able to meander through the forest without difficulty- it really isn't so bad when you aren't driving through at breakneck speeds! Quite pleasant, really.

Vaati [5]+1+1 expertly weaves through the trees- as he has more than twice the Momentum of Shy Guy, he moves to pass! [3]+1+1vs[4]+0+1 Shy Guy isn't going down without a fight, however, and he wards off the encroaching Wind Mage!

Zelda is at the front of the pack at Nugget Bridge, and has the chance to Pull Ahead! [5] She makes a good start as she pulls onto Route 25, [6]-1 easily avoiding the trees that plagued her so the first pass and completing the breakaway! She loses FOUR Momentum as she comes up on the leaders!

Dry Bones lacks the Momentum to mimic Zelda's maneuver, and rattles in his shell as he hears the tell-tale tinkle of the Star behind him!

Boss Form Amadeus is racing up Nugget Bridge, and takes aim at Dry Bones! [4]+7vs[4]+4 His blistering pace is too much for the skeletal Koopa, and DB goes flying as Amadeus blitzes past! Amadeus loses ONE Momentum as he takes a firm hold on Fourth Place, and Dry Bones loses TWO Momentum as he flips away, [5] though he manages to regain control of his Kart before spinning out altogether!

MonkeyKong catches up to Dry Bones readily, breathing down his neck as they match Momentum!

Cleanup Phase

Shy Guy [4]+1 manages to find an Item Box in the course of his meticulous maneuvering through the Route 25 forest, [5] picking up a Blooper!

Vaati the Great Wind Mage [5]+1 also picks up an Item Box, [4]+1 low and behold picking up another Blooper!

Princess Zelda [5]+1-1 manages to snag one of the Item Boxes on Nugget Bridge as she pulls ahead, [5]+2 drawing a coveted Mushroom!

Boss Form Amadeus takes a crack at an Item Box, [6]+1-1-1 hitting one with little difficulty as he blazes past! [6]+3+1 With astounding luck, he picks up another Blue Shell!

Dry Bones [2]+1-2 is frustrated to see Amadeus take the very Item Box he was aiming for!

MonkeyKong [5]+1-2 careens wildly across the bridge to snag the last Item Box, [2]+5+1 and begins dragging a Red Shell behind his Kart!

LEADERBOARD

Clearly, Caellath is our expert analyst providing insight for the fans at home (and any racer with an earpiece.) I was going to throw a bit of fluff on the top of this turn to that effect, but A) I don't have a sprite for Caellath to use to chat with the Lakitu Bros, and B) I once again wound up playing Endless Space until 1am before guilt and duty drove me to come update this thread- i r sleepz

Toaster's got it right- the Ram takes place in a Pass Action, but whether you're passing or being passed doesn't matter.
