Waluigi Pinball. Where is a Darvi when you need one? :>

Yes, this is my clever plan to lure Darvi back to the forums. Somewhere, somehow, his WAAAAAAA senses are tingling!

I say the Cup Race should be any difficult race that is available.  Rainbow Road all the time would get repetitive.

Yeah, any difficult race track should appear in a cup instead of just exclusively rainbow roads. Doubt the people lucky enough to qualify for both cups would appreciate doing the n64 rainbow road, followed by another with only 1 race inbetween to rest.

My vote for spicing up cup races is this.

Boss Races: Yeah, it is a bit silly considering the racers are bosses of games. However, this would be a regular course (or a totally new course!) in which the players have to face a large, persistent hazard in the form of a boss (Big Boo? Dry Bowser?). The boss could possibly be hindered by players throwing items at it. Not sure of the details yet. Maybe the boss could target one or two players per turn, creating an impromptu hazard check. Alternately, the goal of the course could be to defeat the boss somehow (or be the last one standing, or score the highest in fighting the boss) without being knocked off-track, and players could choose to attack (in whatever way they can) as an action to reduce its HP.

There's a lot of ways to go about it, but it would definitely be interesting.

And also offer the players the opportunity to bribe the boss as well :P

As for the cup races though, Rainbow road all the way. Just switch the variations of it around.

Do non-Nintendo related roads count to. Otherwise:

You may want to update the OP with the new tracks (Mt. Silver, Walughi pinball, and the clock one).

While we're throwing out track ideas, I dreamed this one up last night.  Literally.  Inspired by the Silence - High Speed track in F-Zero X, but with some differences.  You'll notice that whereas the original track twisted to be a straightaway for almost the entire circuit, this one is flat with a couple of turns.

Cerulean Speedway- Turn Five

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Action Phase

"Wheeeeeeeee! ~"

Aggressive to the driving!

Try to snatch an item box!

Shy Guy cheers as he crosses the finish line, zooming past it due to the benefit of his modules!

Nothing can stop Shy Guy now!

Nothing!

...what's that wooshing noise?

No matter! As Shy Guy pulls onto Nugget Bridge, he pushes his Kart to the limits, [2]+1 but his focus is shaken by that damn wooshing noise coming up from behind? What in the...

Gotta drive aggressively now!

"Magnificent!  I maintain my position and am in a prime position to break away from the pack!"

Vaati careens downhill in BLUE, trying to trim the twists and turns as closely as possible! [1] He trims it a bit too close, and his Kart catches the guardrail, losing ONE Momentum and taking -1 to Hazard Checks!

Db lets out a low groan as he checks his mirror again to make sure he isn't about to be hit by anything. Drive aggressively, launch shell at vaati.

"Gotta give it to that frilly elf girl, I've seen other dry bones recover slower from a crash then she did. Maybe if I knock that wind mage off the track she was bickering with earlier, she'll stay back to annoy him."

Dry Bones begins Driving Aggressively, trying to close ground on Vaati! [2] Although his driving isn't stellar by any stretch of the imagination (and the although the recklessness imposes a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks,) DB is heartened to see Vaati driving even worse ahead of him! He fires off his Green Shell as he bears down on the Wind Mage of Hyrule, [3]-1+1vs[5]-1 but Vaati is able to swerve away from the encroaching shell, allowing it to hum harmlessly down the track!

((Launch the nuke Monkey!))

Aggressive driving. Time to put the dead koopa back in the grave!

Zelda is determined to catch up to the incompetent fools ahead of her, [5] skillfully picking her way downhill! She gains TWO Momentum and a -1 to Hazard Checks!

Quote from: adwarf
...reestablishing connection...

Boss Form Amadeus drives defensively!

MonkeyKong held the shell in one hand, looking at it puzzled. This was no banana. He gave it a lick anyway - OOOK - tasted a bit fishy, if you asked him. This did little to abate his anger, and he threw the shell as hard as he could at the races still in front of him - MonkeyKong lets out an OOK of suprise as it launches into the air and zooms off into the distance...

More foot to the floor ape like Aggressive driving - Launch the shell.

Inspired by Zelda's performance, MonkeyKong attempts to bolster his downhill plunge, [2] but his racing line is much less efficient than that of the Princess! He takes a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks- undeterred, he launches the BLUE SHELL! The winged shell zips into the sky, tearing up the track- it will hit at the end of next turn's Action Phase!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Shy Guy recognizes the telltale whine of an approaching Blue Shell, and drives furiously, hoping to Pull Ahead before it strikes! [1] He is so shaken by his impending doom, however, that he completely loses his concentration, losing ONE Momentum as he drifts off his line!

Vaati the Wind Mage is navigating the circuitous seaside road in BLUE! The many small twists, turns, and S-bends provide ample opportunity for a skilled racer, [3] but Vaati is unable to capitalize! He's still got the Momentum to attempt to Pull Ahead, however, [4] and he SUCCEEDS! He blazes across the start line and over Nugget Bridge, catching up to Shy Guy as he loses FOUR Momentum!

Dry Bones [5] rises to the challenge offered by the cliff road, taking a perfect racing line and gaining +1 to Pass Checks! Seeing Vaati Pull Ahead in front of him, Dry Bones attempts to follow, [1] but misjudges a corner, skidding across the dirt and losing ONE Momentum before he regains control!

Zelda [4] follows Dry Bones' racing line with ease, gaining a +1 to Pass Checks and moving to pass! [4]+6+1vs[1]+4+1 As Dry Bones catches the dirt, Princess Zelda zips through the opening, passing Dry Bones for Third Place and losing ONE Momentum!

Boss Form Amadeus [3] takes an average path through the segment, failing to gain any advantage on his competitors!

MonkeyKong [5] duplicates the sensational driving of Dry Bones, picking up a +1 bonus to Pass Checks! Regrettably, he lacks the Momentum to attempt a pass!

Cleanup Phase

Shy Guy takes aim at the Item Boxes at the end of Nugget Bridge, [1]+1-1 but he isn't even close!

Vaati zooms up Nugget Bridge after Shy Guy, [3]+1-1 but he just misses the prize parcel!

Note that I do not consider it metagaming to know what is in the inventory of your fellow drivers- you're assumed to have a HUD, and between that and your mirrors it's pretty easy to see what your competitors are attempting. Mind, there isn't much chance of dodging the Blue Shell (actually, it's like 2%) but that's also why you've got a little time to react to it. Your best Blue Shell actions are to try and "pull ahead" or "get item to inconvenience followers" the turn it is launched, and the turn it'll hit it boils down to "Drive Defensively to dodge the bastard" or "Drive close to the 2nd place guy to try and make him share the effects."

This ProTip brought to you by HFS Inc- come for the candy, stay for the clowns!

You may want to update the OP with the new tracks (Mt. Silver, Walughi pinball, and the clock one).

Yes, I should, but I'm sleepy right now- hopefully I'll remember to do it after work tomorrow.

Vaati grins madly as he puts some distance between himself and the rest of the pack, closing the distance to Shy Guy at the same time.  The blue shell zips over his head and he ducks reflexively.
"Hmph.  I had hoped to take the lead, but that must wait until the poor fool in front of me is hit.  For now I shall drive defensively yet again!"

Gritting his teeth as he hit the dirt, Db decided it was time for the gloves to come off, figuratively and literally. Tugging his gloves off with his teeth while keeping at least 1 hand on the wheel. Noticing the flashing spectacle in his rear view causing his jaw to drop, and his pair of gloves to fall into his lap before letting out a quick sigh of relief as he noticed he was still a bit faster. Db quickly decides to Draft Zelda as he aims for the panels, hoping to find an opening that will rocket him ahead of her, and putting someone inbetween him and the technicolored meat bag.

OOC: Actually there's another slightly more tricky solution to the Blue Shell-emergency stop and reverse, and let the person following you temporarily take 1st place to get hit by it.

At least, that's what I always did. :P
