Yoshi Falls- Turn Thirteen

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Action Phase

Drop the Bomb-omb behind me and Drive Defensively along the Inner Curve!

WAHAHAHA!!! You fools have underestimated me for the last time!  Now you'll see how the Green Thunder STRIIIIIIIIIIKESSSS LIIIIIIIIIKE---

The Mysterious Mr. L wisely avoids the banana-strewn outside path, Driving Defensively and preparing to unleash the thunder as he cuts toward the water!

Action: Fire All Items, backwards and forwards! Red Shell, then Fake Box if order needed.

Aggressive Driving, Outside lane! Go for the Gold!

"Oomph have cunning plan!
...
FIRE EVERYTHING!"

Oomph sends his Red Shell flying forward as The Mysterious Mr. L cuts inside, [4]+3vs[6]+3 and the shell strikes the Bob-omb, causing a violent explosion! MML races just ahead of the leading edge of the blast, escaping cleanly- woe betide whatever drivers followed MML!

Oomph swings outside, preferring to try his luck with the bananas- he rides an aggressive line, [2] but the shockwave from the explosion throws him off his stride! He takes a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks as he prepares to drop a Fake Item Box to foil pursuit!

This was it, the final stretch.

Outer lane , Draft, Throw the Bo-omb forward

Mario follows Oomph to the outside, but not after flicking his Bob-omb foward at The Mysterious Mr. L! [6]-1vs[5]+1 The leader shows off some excellent driving skills as he evades the thrown Bob-omb, which falls on the inside track primed to explode!

Mario looks for an opening, prepared to pass Oomph, [2]+4vs[4]+4 but can't get by!

"At least a podium finish, come on." Bill pleaded his cart as he drafted behind Mario.

Bill Ryzer jostles for position behind Mario, looking for an opportunity to pass, [6]+4vs[4]+4 and finds one! He squeezes through a narrow opening on the outside, taking THIRD Place and losing ONE Momentum!

There's always a chance! Give it all you got!
Outside lane, aggressive driving!

Captain Falcon may be racing on a strange course, with an unfamiliar, damaged Kart, in poor position going into the last segment- but dammit, he's no quitter! He jerks to the outside, and takes one last shot at the lead! [6] Years of racing instinct kick in as he follows a nearly perfect racing line, taking the segment better than any other racer! He surges forward with THREE Momentum, but will it be enough?

Counselor Grimtoad makes a stunning finish by driving straight off the track and into the water!

: "Last place!? I stand no chance now! I would rather live a life of infamy than a life of obscurity! SCREW YOU GUYS I DO WHAT I WAAAAAAAANT"

Counselor Grimtoad may be a quitter, but dammit, he's a quitter on his own terms! He savagely hauls on the steering wheel, directing the Kart that has failed him so thoroughly toward a watery doom!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

The Mysterious Mr. L is in the lead, dodging explosions and shells as he crosses inside to the watery path below the bridge! [3]+2+1 He has little trouble fording the river- eschewing the Item Boxes, he streaks for the finish line!

Behind him, Oomph crosses the bridge, coming up on the bananas! [1]+1-1 He can't avoid the troublesome fruits, and Spins Out, losing ONE Momentum! He drops his Fake Item Box behind him as he zooms toward the finish line, hoping to preserve his slot in the Star Cup!

Bill Ryzer swerves to dodge the last banana, [4]+1 and has little difficulty following Oomph around it- suddenly, the Koopa drops his Fake Item Box [1]-1 and Bill has no chance to avoid it! His Kart tumbles, losing TWO Momentum [6] as the steering wheel becomes suddenly unresponsive- Sticky, even! Cursing cruel fate, Bill putters toward the finishing line, hoping his lead is enough to hold onto a bronze finish!

Mario comes up on the last banana, [1]+1-1 and can't avoid hitting it, Spinning Out and losing ONE Momentum! As Bill flips on Oomph's box, however, Mario finds he has an opportunity to move ahead! [3]+4vs[5]+1 Despite the best efforts of the Contra vet, Mario is able to cruise by the beleaguered Bill, taking THIRD Place and losing ONE Momentum! Unfortunately, he doesn't quite have enough Momentum to get by Oomph- his charge ends here!

Captain Falcon is flying up the track- there are no bananas or Fake Item Boxes to slow his charge, and he takes his shot at glory! [3]+6vs[1]+1 Poor Bill Ryzer has no chance to hinder the charging Captain Falcon, who takes FOURTH PLACE and loses ONE Momentum! He's not done yet, as he takes aim at Mario! [6]+5vs[3]+3 Falcon blazes past, securing a spot on the podium with THIRD PLACE, losing ONE Momentum and coming up behind Oomph- the same Oomph who edged him out at the very start of the race! [5]+4vs[3]+3 He pulls past the frustrated Koopa, losing ONE Momentum and taking SECOND PLACE! His only regret is that he runs out of track- The Mysterious Mr. L is too far ahead to pass!

Counselor Grimtoad defies fate and logic, vaulting toward the cliff edge- he finds the path brimming with concussive explosions! [5]+1 He readily avoids the Bob-omb Oomph's Red Shell detonated, [1]+1 but finds himself on a direct line to the blast radius of Mario's hurled Bob-omb! Grimtoad Spins Out, losing ONE Momentum and falling toward the cliff! [5]+2 He halts his helpless fall, coming to a full and complete stop at the cliff edge- then, very deliberately, Counselor Grimtoad allows the Kart to plunge over the edge! Probably making an obscene gesture while he does so!

Cleanup Phase

The Mysterious Mr. L crosses the finish line well ahead of the carnage behind him, claiming FIRST PLACE and a spot in the Star Cup!

Captain Falcon concludes his miraculous charge just behind MML, claiming SECOND PLACE and a chance for redemption in the Star Cup!

Oomph loses a heartbreaker- a little better roll at the end, a little less banana, if he'd avoided that hiccup... he'd be on his way to the bigtime. Instead, he has to settle for breaking even in THIRD PLACE!

Mario slams the steering wheel in frustration- so close! A good showing despite a shaky start, but now he'll have to wait for next season to prove his worth to Silph Co- at least he picks up some career points with FOURTH PLACE.

Bill rolls across the finish line in his crippled kart- veterans seem to have poor luck in the MKL as he never could get anything going. At least it isn't last place, but competing next season will be tricky with this broken Kart. FIFTH PLACE.

Counselor Grimtoad is saved from watery doom by the nice folks at Lakitu Towing- with the race over, they agree to drop the Counselor off at the beach resort at the base of the falls. His Kart is so messed up, he wouldn't even mind if the sands covered it for all time. SIXTH PLACE.

GOAL

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th

And that was some bad luck in the last few turns. Should have taken more risks.

Also, what happened to the Bo-ombs, can't find any mention of them. (One was hit by the red shell, but what with the other).

Three cheers for Monk12 for hosting another excellent round! I was laughing most of the way, and it was thoroughly enjoyable even though I did lose harder than anyone else :P

Wow this race was a bloodbath. Five hiccups? I have a feeling that next season there could be plenty of bounty hunters. Perhaps you should hold a "Last chance" race after the star cup without rules to increase the carnage... (And have a podium finish in that include fixing the kart's associated hiccups.)

Also, using a dragged item to deflect a bob-omb doesn't seem the most logical thing ever. Just saying.
