Can I draft behind/ target  someone from the another part of the circuit. (Ie MML on the inside, me on the outside.)  I don't want to risk falling back if he activates that blooper.

Oh whoops, misread that rule. Change the action to driving aggressively!

I still think the outside is a better lane to do this in since the hazard check is milder compared to the inside.

Yes: You can draft behind anyone in the same segment, regardless of your respective paths- which path you take represents which side you attempt to pass on. The only items that are path-specific are Dropped Items, because they function like stationary Hazards. Thrown Bob-ombs/Bananas/Fake Item Boxes can all target both paths, and land in the targeted path. The various Shells also target both paths interchangeably, and Bloopers and Thunderbolts affect everyone regardless of where they are (including other segments.)

Yoshi Falls- Turn Ten

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Action Phase

Drive Defensively along the inside path, use the Blooper and get an item box.

The Mysterious Mr. L cuts inside toward the Item Boxes, Driving Defensively and unleashing THE BLOOPER! The other racers take a -1 Penalty to Basically Everything!

Outside lane, draft , and fire the red shell.

Mario is right behind The Mysterious Mr. L, and as he picks up the speed boost from Drafting he fires the Red Shell! [5]+3vs[1]+1 The shell slams into MML from the side as he makes his cut, causing him to lose TWO Momentum sending him tumbling down the slope toward the cliff edge! [1]+2+1 Only his caution saves The Mysterious Mr. L from a nasty fall!

Mario takes advantage of MML's distress to attempt a pass, [6]+4-1vs[4]+3+1 and he has little trouble despite the Ink, shooting down the outer path less ONE Momentum and claiming FIRST PLACE!

Counselor Grimtoad takes the outer track and drives aggressively!

: "Alright, this is my chance. The items haven't helped me much, so I better focus on the prize: getting my chance at the Star Cup!"

Counselor Grimtoad swings wide to the outer path and its scattered bananas, [1]-1 but in his haste he forgets to shift gear! He takes a -1 Penalty on Hazard Checks as the engine chokes and sputters, spewing black smoke! [4] As the magical Stardust-powered Onboard Komputer (SOK) struggles to regulate the complex inner workings of the Kart, it develops a strange resonance- unfortunately, it matches the innate resonance of the common Banana Peel! His Kart becomes a Banana Magnet!

Action: Inside Ring, defensive driving, try to snag up an item box.

"Oomph not give up!"

Oomph drives defensively toward the item boxes- let the others risk everything and make the mistakes, Oomph would bide his time until the perfect moment to strike!

Captain Falcon gives his vehicle the best mechanical treatment he could, by kicking the kart in the panel. He was NOT about to be showed up.

*inside lane, draft, get an item box*

Captain Falcon follows Oomph inside, attempting to claw his way back into the lead! [3]+1-1vs[1]+4+1-1 Unfortunately, the Koopa is just too far ahead, and Falcon can't get a good draft going!

He drove into the inner curve, trying again for the item boxes.

"I can't believe it. Back then, I could hit one of those damn aliens from a mile away. Now, I can't even guide a car into a box."

Bill Ryzer drives defensively towards the Item Boxes, hoping for something to change his fortune!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Mario is cruising down the outside lane- as he crosses the bridge, he swerves to avoid the bananas strewn there! [5]+1-1 He evades the hazard with little trouble, holding on to his slight lead!

The Mysterious Mr. L heads inside toward the river, [5]+1+2 and has absolutely no trouble navigating the water hazard! He lines up on one of the Item Boxes floating downstream!

Counselor Grimtoad is attempting to recover his form in the outside lane, as he approaches the Banana Hazard! [1]+1-1-1-1 His wheels catch on one of the pestersome peels, and as he Spins Out (losing ONE Momentum,) the peel takes the strangest flight path, seeming almost to curve under the wheel rim and up into the inner workings of the Kart! Things get thoroughly gummed up as the Kart emits a pleasant fruity odor, [7] until a mild explosion at the nose of the Kart ejects the bothersome banana through the hood! The damage to the body of the Kart causes it to become Not Aerodynamic- Grimtoad can only use the Draft action if his Momentum is higher than the racer ahead of him!

Oomph cuts to the inside, toward the river rapids and their associated Item Boxes! [3]+1+2-1 He has little difficulty staying on target, and takes aim at one of the boxes!

Captain Falcon follows Oomph inside, [4]+1+2-1 having no trouble with the water hazard! He slides toward one of the Item Boxes!

Bill Ryzer completes the inside-lane conga, [2]+1+2-1 fording the stream with little difficulty and heading toward an Item Box!

Cleanup Phase

The Mysterious Mr. L is skidding toward an Item Box, [6]+3+1 and hits the floating goody with aplomb, [2]+1 gaining a Triple Banana! He begins dragging the bunch behind his Kart!

Oomph [6]+3+1-1 has only slightly less trouble getting his item, [5]+3 picking up a Red Shell! He begins dragging it behind his Kart!

Captain Falcon [4]+3-1 nails his Item Box, [2]+4 snagging a Bob-omb! He begins dragging the explosive behind his Kart!

Bill Ryzer [2]+3+1-1 can't help but plow through one of the plentiful Item Boxes, [2]+5 picking up a valuable Mushroom!

The racers cross the finish line, entering the LAST LAP! It's do or die, ladies and gentlemen!

Last lap. Last chance for his comeback. Heaven or Hell, lets rock. Captain Falcon gunned his engine and turned hard, bomb in hand and lobbed the explosive at Mario for a taste of revenge.

"This for this racer to fly!"

Power Slide, inside track, throw bomb at Mario

Powerslide, inner path.

((Does defensive driving give me a bonus to evade the bomb? Also, does the poweslide bonus count for pulling ahead to?))

Defensive Driving gives you +1 vs the bomb, the bonus from Powersliding does not apply to Pulling Ahead (Pulling Ahead is a Racing Check, not a Pass Check.)

Two hiccups on the last lap!? I'm dead.

: "No! If I don't make it into the second place this last lap, I'll be reduced to irrelevance like the fate of all Original Characters in fanfiction about video games. I have to get ahead. For the Mushroom Kingdom... and FOR THE GLORY OF PLOT TWISTS!"

Power slide along the outer track!

EDIT: Wait, I meant power slide.

This race has been absolutely lethal. I'm the only person to get a hiccup race 1, and then WHOA SHIT WE GET 4 IN ONE RACE

I no longer feel upset about my hiccup if it's any reward to anyone.
