I don't mind on the rules change, really. I shall leave it up to the others! :)

If there's a tiebreaker needed, I'll go ahead and vote for the change, but I'd leave it up to ExKirby, his star would have been far more effective had he gotten another action under the effect.

I will also vote don't care either way, with the addendum that I feel several items are a bit useless for spending an action on right now, despite having been the most effective user of one.

Luigi Circuit- Turn Six
1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Player Action

Regardless, Luigi starts the second lap with a power slide.

[6]+1 Luigi Power Slides into the next lap like some kind of racing pro, gaining TWO Momentum and a +1 bonus to Pass Checks!

That hadn't gone quite according to plan.
"Argh! The flak's thick up here! Taking evasive action!"
Fox shouted and pushed the engines to theirits limit as he took evasive action... Which basically just means stomping down on the pedal and driving really recklessly, with Luigi in his sights.
>Drive aggressively!

Fox takes aim at Luigi, racing to catch up! [3] Unfortunately, he is unable to make up any ground!

Drive aggressively!  Catch up to those place-stealers!
[/i]

If there's one thing that Crank hates, it's usurpers! He takes an aggressive racing line, [4] and gains ONE Momentum, closing in on Fox!

Drive offensively to regain lost ground while making obscene gestures at everyone I pass!

[4] King Harkinian puts the pedal to the metal, racing after Crank with ONE additional Momentum!

Agressive!

[2] Link races hard, but cannot seem to catch up!

Aggresive driving.

WORK YOU STUPID DICE

[4] Kirby finally gets some luck, and his Kart jolts ahead with ONE Momentum!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

All racers hit the Dash Panels leading to the RED Segment, gaining ONE Momentum!

Luigi is flying down the track, and attempts to Pull Ahead! [6]-1 He zips away onto the Purple Segment, and tries to evade the Chain Chomp! [1]+2 Unfortunately, his fast living brings him well within the Chomping radius, and the Poltergust 4000 goes flying, losing TWO Momentum! Luigi is still well in the lead, but he cannot quite Pull Ahead!

Fox McCloud is hauling ass, but cannot catch up to Luigi!

Crank has the opportunity to pass Fox, [6]+5vs[2]+4 and does so, reclaiming his second place slot and losing ONE Momentum!

King Harkinian lacks the Momentum to pass Fox!

Link has a line on King Harkinian, [4]+5vs[5]+4 but the wily King holds his own!

Kirby takes advantage of the tussling ahead of him to attempt a Pass, [3]+6vs[1]+5 and succeeds, slipping around Link for Fifth Place, losing ONE Momentum and closing in on King Harkinian! [4]+5vs[1]+4 He flies on by, taking Fourth Place and losing ONE Momentum! Kirby is right behind Fox!

Cleanup Phase

These straightaways have easy cleanups- pick which path for the curve next turn!

Fair enough- I think I'll stick that Star back in your inventory, effectively immediately. Sound good?

Quote from: Rules
The ink can be washed off earlier by driving over a Dash Panel, using a Mushroom, Boo, or Star, or Power Sliding.
* Gatleos notices that all sections of the track are either a straightaway with a dash panel on it or a turn made for power sliding

Actually, having played substantial amounts of Mario Kart since writing that bit, it turns out Power Slides do not work to wash it off- I'll amend it as such. Doesn't do much about the Dash Panels everywhere, but hey, dems da breaks.

In an earlier turn, Crank got an immediate shot to pull ahead when he completed a power slide on a curve, so shouldn't I have gotten the same opportunity? Or is that only a feature for the curves?

Anyway, Luigi power slides through the outer curve, hitting the dash panels once more.

Edit: Action changed.

Aw dammit. I'm going to rule that Pulling Ahead can only happen during the Movement Phase, to give people a chance to react to the Leader. My apologies for the confusion/inconsistency.

@The Rule Change In Which I Would Gain A Star: As long as everyone else who used items gets a similar boost, sure.

Powerslide the inside.

I think I'll give Fox his Bob-omb back- everyone else who had an item at least got some use out of theirs.

Not directly, no. Feel free to make a spectacle of yourself anyway, I may or may not riff off of it.
